UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY T. PETERS, OF VOODLAND, PENNSYLVANIA.
SHAVlNG-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,579, dated October 4, 1892.
Application filed May 11I 1892. Serial No. 4:3 2,626- (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARRY T. PETERs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Woodland, in the county of Clearfield and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Shaving-Case, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to improvements in shaving-cases; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts thereof, as will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of this invention is to provide a device of the character set forth embodying all the attachments and compartments necessary for use in shaving and wherein the parts are simple and effective in their construction and operation and comparatively inexpensive in manufacture.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved case, showing the lid open and the hone attachment let down in Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section on the line a Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section onV the line y y, Fie. 1.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the box or case, having a hinged lid 2, with a looking-glass or mirror 3 embedded in the inner side thereof. Within the box or case are transverse partitions 4, arranged parallel and extending entirely across the same. Between said partitions 4 and fixed to the rear side cf the box or case is anarrow partition 5, dividing the rear portion of the said box or case at this point into two compartments 6 and 7. In front of the said partition 5 and considerably below the level of the upper edges of the partitions 4, is a hori- Zontal partition 8 with an opening 9 therein. The said opening 9 is adapted to receive the shavingmug, and the openings 6 and 7 receive, respectively, bottles containing suitable fluids, such as bay rum and hair-oil.
Between the partitions 4E and the ends of the box or case are secured horizontal partitions 10 and 11, forming receptacles for ra- 5o zors ahd a comb and brush. Under the partition 10 are arranged two automatically-opdrawer 17, adapted to receive shaving-paper,
and having a stop-pin 18 in the rear of the same to prevent entire withdrawal of the said drawer from the openingin which it moves.
The central upper portion of the front side of the box or case is constructed witha hinged strip 19, having fixed to the inner side thereof a hone 2O and bars or catches 21, which are adapted to be turned outward and engage slots or recesses 22 in the upper edges of the partitions 4 to thereby lock the said hinged strip in closed position. Beneath the lower edge of the said hinged strip 19 an opening 23 is formed in the casein which is mounted a sliding bar 2i, having an operating knob or handle 25 and a recess 2G in the upper side thereof to form a front shoulder 27, adapted to abut against a depending projection 28 when moved inward, extending across the upper portion of the opening 23, to thereby limit the inward movement of the said sliding bar 24. The said bar 24; is also provided with a depending pin 28x, adapted to strikea cross-piece 29X against the lower inner portion ofthe front of the box. This bar 24 forms a rest or support for the hinged strip 19 when the latter islet down for the purpose of using the hone carried on the inner side thereof.
The ends of the box or case 1 are provided with hooks 29 for attaching the same to a wall or other support, if so desired, or the device as an entirety may be placed on a stand or table. A further attachment consists of a spring 30, which is connected to the lid or cover 2 and the box or case, to prevent the said lid from readily falling down when open. The box or case herein described is neat and compact in form and provides means for storing the several tools and appliances necessary for use in shaving. If desired, the said box or case may be suitably ornamented or IOO artistically embellished with pleasing designs and may also be constructed of different kinds of wood or other material.
A suitable lock and key will be applied in connection with the box or case, whereby the saine may be securely fastened to prevent entrance thereinto, if so desired.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- In a device of the character set forth, the combination of a box or case having transverse partitions vertically disposed intermediate of the ends thereof and extending completely from front to rear to form a cen` portion ofthe rear edge of said horizontal partition and the back side of the box to form receptacles for removably receiving bottles, shallow receptacles between the said transverse partitions and the ends of the box or case, raZor-strops at one side of said box or case, a drawer at the lower portion of the opposite side of said box or case, astrip hinged to the bottom wall of the opening in the front side of the box or case, a hone carried on the inner side of said strip, catches secured to the upper portion of the inner side of said strip, an adjustable bar below said strip to form a support for the same, and a hinged lid or cover having a mirror on the inner side thereof, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
HARRY T. PETERS.
