BRlDLE-BIT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,103, dated September 20, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that LJOHN DEAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Racine, in the county of Racine, and in the State of W'isconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridle-Bits; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription thereof.

My invention has for its object to provide a bridle-bit having strong, durable, and unwelded cheek-pieces, this object being attained by the construction and combination of parts hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 represents an elevation, partly in section, of a, bridle-bit constructed according to my invention; and Fig. 2, a plan View of a cheek-piece, partly in horizontal section, on line 2 2 of the preceding figure.

Referring by letter to the drawings, A represents the mouth-bar of a bridle-bit, and B the cheek-pieces that are pivotally connected to the ends of the mouth-bar. Each cheekpiece herein shown is made from a single straight piece of steel wife that is first loosely engaged with an eye in an end of the mouthbar and then bent from above this bar to form arein-loop, the upper end of the wire being turned around that portion of the same below said bar to make the loop endless without welding, after which the lower end of said Cheek-pieces such as I have shown and described, being made from steel wire and joined to a steel mouth-bar, a very strong but light all-steel bit is the result, such a bit being especially designed for the fine trade.

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. Abridle-bit comprising a mouth-bar and cheek-pieces pivotally connected to the same, each cheek-piece being a single wire that is bent from above the bar to form a rein-loop and turned around itself below said bar, the non-bent portion of the wire being extended down from that point at which the bent portion is joined thereto, substantially as set forth. v

2. A bridle-bit comprising a mouth-bar and cheek-pieces pivotally connected to the same, each cheek-piece being a single wire that is bent from above the bar to form a rein-loop, turned around itself below said bar, and flattened at its lower free end, substantially as Set forth.
