HANDLE-HOLDER FOR BRUSHES, 86C.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 482,221, dated September 6, 1892.

Application filed March 24, 1892.

.To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, WILLIAM E. BARNETT and BENNET R. OHALK, residing at Mount NVashington, Baltimore county, Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Handle-Holders for Brushes, dac., of which the following is a specification.

This invention is aJn improvement. in handle-holders for brushes, brooms, dre., and especially in the means whereby the handle may be secured at one or the other side of the brush and conveniently changed from side to side to equalize the wear; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of our improved handle-holder, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.

The joint-plate A may be secured to the brush or broom block in any suitable manner, and is formed with a central seat B for the head of the socket-piece and on opposite side of such seat with sockets O, having their side plates C perforated and one of the perforations at d being threaded for the pin D, forming the fastening or securing device, as presently described.

The handle-section E is formed at c to receive the handle-rod and fits and is pivoted at its lower end in the seat B. Shortly above its lower pivoted end the handle-section is provided with the oppositely-projected lugs F, which are perforated at j' and fit in their respective sockets C in the different adjustments of the handle. To reverse the handle, it is only necessary to remove the screw-pin, turn the handle to adjust its other lug F into its sockets, and insert the pin. This provision of simple means for conveniently adjusting the handle to the opposite sides and for securing it in such adjustment permits the wear to be equalized on the broom or brush so that it will move evenly on both sides until it is entirely worn away.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The improved handle-holder herein described, comprising the two separated sockets, the handle-section pivoted at its lower end between the said sockets and provided above said pivot with oppositely-projected lugs arranged to project in the adjustments of the handle into their respective sockets, and securing devices for holding the said lugs in their sockets, substantially as set forth.

2. The improved handle-holder herein described, consisting of the joint-plate having a central seat and provided on opposite sides of such seat with sockets C, the side plates C of which are perforated, one perforation of each pair being threaded, the handle-section pivoted at its lower end in the seat of the jointplate and provided above said pivot with 0ppositely-projected perforated lugs fit-ting in their respective sockets C in the different adjustments of the handle-piece, and the screwpin by which to retain the said lugs in their sockets, substantially as set forth.
