Description

(No Model.)
W. B. BLALOOK & J. A. MUIR.
PBNHOLDER.
No. 481,158. Patented Aug. 23, 1892.
Urvrrnn WILLIAM BENJAMIN BLALOCK AND JAMES ALFRED MUIR, OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS.
PENH-OLDER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 481,158, dated August 23, 1892.
Application filed January 26, 1892. Serial No. 419,367. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, WILLIAM BENJAMIN BLALOOK and J AMES ALFRED MUIR, citizens of the United States, residing at Huntsville, in the county of Valker and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Penholder, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in penholders whereby the pen may be automatically discharged or ejected from the holder. \Ve attain this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents the device complete; Fig. 2, the staff with tenoned and beveled end; Fig. 3, a beveled slide; Fig. 4, a slotted tube; Fig. 5, a tube with hole in side.
It is designed that the beveled slide 1), Fig. 3, with a slight shoulder on its upper side and a hole at c, Fig. 3, be adapted to fit and operate upon the beveled end of the staff a, Fig. 2, and the slotted tube d, Fig. 4, to inclose both the staff and slide, and the tube 6, Fig. 5, is designed to inclose the tube d, Fig. 4. A pin or screw is designed to hold the parts in position by being passed through the hole in tube e, Fig. 5, through the slot in tube d, Fig. 4, and into the hole 0 of the slide b, Fig. 3.
The pen is inserted between theinner tube d, Fig. 4, and the slide 1), Fig.3, until the end of the pen rests against the shoulder of the slide b, Fig. 3. The pen is discharged or ejected by sliding the outer tube 6, Fig. 5, outwardly until the pin or screw comes to the outer end of the slot in tube cl, Fig. 4.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, in a penholder, of a staif with tenoned end, a portion of which is out out of its upper surface with a downward bevel to its lower end, a beveled slide adapted to fit and slide upon the beveled cut in the staff, said slide being provided with a slight shoulder upon its upper side and a hole through the same for a screw or pin, a tube longitudinally slotted inclosing said staff and slide, a tube of such inner circumference as to inclose the slotted tube end of staff and slide, said outer tube provided with a hole adapted to receive a screw or pin, said screw or pin passing through the hole in the outer tube, through the slot in the inner tube, and into the hole in the slide, all substantially as set forth.
WILLIAM BENJAMIN BLALOOK. JAMES ALFRED MUIR.
