PENHOLDER ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 12, 1911.
Application filed October 22, 1910. Serial No. 588,521.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs W. HARMON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mauriceville, in the county of Orange and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Penholder At tachments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to pen holder attachments and the principal object of the same is to provide a device which can be attached to a penholder and will act as a reservoir to hold a supply of ink obtained by dipping the pen into an ink well. By the use of this attachment it is not necessary to dip the pen in the ink as often as with the ordinary pen point.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the attachment applied to the penholder. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View through the penholder and attachment. Fig. 8 is a sectional view on line B-B of Fig. 1, looking toward the holder. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the attachment.
In the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 represents a penholder which may be of any type desired. The ink holder 3 is provided with a pair of side members H which overlap the sides of the pen as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1. The ink holder is provided with a blunt nose 6 which contacts with the pen near the point and prevents the ink from feeding too freely. The ink holder is rigidly secured within a sleeve 7, the inner ends of the ink holder coming in contact with the end of the penholder 1, as shown at 8 and preventing the sleeve from being placed too far upon the holder. The
sleeve is provided intermediate its length with an enlarged portion to form a finger hold 9 and atits end with a band 10 which causes it to tightly grip the penholder.
The operation is as follows :The pen 11 is mounted in the holder in the ordinary manner and the sleeve 4 passed over the point and upon the pen holder until the end of the pen holder comes in contact with the inner end of the ink holding attachment as shown by the numeral 8 in Fig. 2. In this position the nose 6 will be in contact with the pen near the point and the sides 44 will overlap the sides of the pen thus preventing any danger of any leaking from the sides.
What I claim is 1. A penholder attachment comprising an ink holder having side portions adapted to overlap the sides of a pen, and a sleeve secured near the butt of said holder, said sleeve adapted to be passed over the end of a pen holder, the inner end of said ink holder contacting with the end of said pen holder to limit the inward movement of said penholder in said sleeve.
2. A pen holder and an attachment comprising an ink holder, a sleeve secured near the rear of said ink holder, the inner end of said ink holder adapted to abut against the end of said penholder when the attachment is placed upon said pen holder to limit the extent to which the pen holder can be in serted through the sleeve, and means for securing said attachment in place.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES W. HARMON. WVitnesses J. R. J ONES, FEXIE BURTAN.
