SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 480,629, dated August 9, 1892.
Application filed September 5,1891. Serial No. 404,863. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NELSON SIGLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Aurelia, in the county of Cherokee and State of Iowa, haveinvented certain newand usefullmprovements in Hame-Tugs; andido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to hame-tugs, and has for its object to provide a simple, efficient, and durable tug and Zone that will admit of the trace being adjustably connected therewith at a moments notice, the connection being made in a convenient manner.

Fig. 3 is a top and reverse plan view of a portion of the tug, showing the outline of the opening formed therein for the reception of the trace-hook. Fig. 4 is a detail view in side elevation of the trace-hook. Fig. 5 is a cross-section of the hame-clip on the line Y Y of Fig. 1, the fastening-plate being shown drawn out by dotted lines. Fig. 6 is a longitudinal section of the said clip on the line 6 6 of Fig. 1.
The parts are all constructed of metal. The tug A is of proper length, and is provided at one end with the raised loop a to permit the passage therethrough of the trace B and at its opposite end with the clip 0, which is pivotally connected therewith and intermediate of its ends with the series of openings D. The side loops 1) and d, near the end having loop a, are designed to receive the back-band and the girth-straps, respectively. The openings D have diametrically-opposite shoulders d, which extend obliquely from the front to the rear side of the tug. The rear half 61' of the opening is larger than the front half, being formed on a circle of larger radius. The rear wall of the said enlarged portion d of the opening a is beveled approxi mately to the pitch and in the direction of the shoulders d. The front wall of the contracted portion of the said opening is beveled in each direction from a point midway between the front and the rear sides of the said tug. The apertured cars a, cast with the tug, receive the fastening means which secure the anti-chafing straps to the said tug. The hook F is bifurcated to receive the trace B, which is secured thereto by rivets. The engaging portion f, which is at right angles to the bifurcated portion, is provided on its front and side edges with the flange f, which is beveled to engage with the tug on the rear side and opposite the contracted portion of the opening D. The side portions of the flange f ride on the shoulders dwhen the engaging portion f of the hook F is thrust through the opening D.
The hook G, cast with the clip, engages with the hams-ring, and the latch g, pivoted to the free end of the hook, is adapted to enter a groove in the face of the clip and is provided with the projection g,which extends through an opening in the said clip. The face of the clip is recessed opposite the end of the latch, and the plate I-I, constructed to slide across and in the said recess, is adapted to extend over the end of the said latch and secure it in a closed position. The plate is fastened in place by any suitable means-as, for instance, by the screw h.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The herein-described hame-tug, having raised loop a and lateral loops 1) and b at one end, and clip 0, pivotally connected with the other end and comprising hook Grand pivoted latch g and having a series ofopenings D, each opening having diametrically-opposite shoulders d, which extend obliquely from the front to the rear side of said tug, the rear half d of the opening being larger than the front half and having its rear wall beveled to approximately the pitch of the shoulders 01, the front half of said openings D having the front wall beveled in each direction, and a trace-hook having an engaging portion f, which is provided with beveled flanges f on its front and two sides to co-operate with the said openings D, substantially in the [nanner shown and described.
2. In a hame-tug, the combination, with a 5 clip having hook G and having a lateral undercut recess in one face, of. latch g, pivotally attached to hook G and having projection g at one end, the free portion and projectiong of the latch adapted to enter a seat 10 in the said clip, the plate I-I, adapted to slide in said undercut recess over the free end of said latch, and a fastening h to prevent the
