6. SGHWAB. PHOTOGRAPHIG ALBUM;
N0. 479,667. I Patented July 26, 1892.
WITNESES. M/VENTOHI," 77 v I quslawfifiwab MOW 7 6 BY 4 z/md ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAVE SOHWAB, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PHOTOGRAPHIC ALBUM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 479,667, dated July 26, 1892.
Application filed May 3,1892.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GUsTAvE SOHWAB, acitizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Photographic Albums, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in that class of photographic albums which are provided with a case or casing for the leaves and with a door or doors for covering said leaves.
My invention consists in a peculiar and novel connection between the album-leaves and the case, as pointed out in the following specification and claim, so that theleaves can be readily turned down for the purpose of inspecting the pictures, and when it is desired to introduce new pictures the album-leaves can be bodily removed from the case.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view when the doors of the case are open and the album-leaves in -position for inspecting the pictures which may be contained in the same. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical. section in the plane 00 00, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar section when the doors of the case are closed.
In the drawings the letter A designates a case, which is supported upon and secured to the base B and sustained in an inclined position, when so desired, by a prop C, which is connected with said base and the back of the case. IVithin the case is a set of album-leaves D, connected at the bottom by strips of flexible material or other means, whereby they may be folded one on the other and inclosed in the case, as shown in Fig. 3, or unfolded toward the front, so that the photographs or pictures may be successively presented for inspection, as shown in Fig. 1. Connected with the sides of the case are doors E. which are adapted to open laterally and which when closed serve to cover up the set of albumleaves D. A catch F serves to retain the doors in their closed positions. Ahook-andsocket connection G H is provided between the rear leaf D and the back of the case, the hook G being removable from the socket.
Serial No. 431,696- (No model.)
In the example shown in the drawings the so hook G is attached to the rear leaf and the socket H is formed in the back of the case; but it is obvious that the hook might be attached to the back of the case and the socket formed in the rear leaf Dwithout departing from the spirit of my invention.
In Fig. 1 of the drawings I have shown two hooks G, and of course acorresponding number of sockets must be provided in that case. It will be readily seen by inspectingthe drawings that the hook G is free to move up and down in the socket H, so that when the albumleaves are turned down to the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the requisite freedom of motion is afforded, and if it is desired to introduce new pictures the entire set of albumleaves can be readily removed from the case by removing the hook G from the socket H, so that said leaves can be placed upon a flat surface and the operation of introducing the new picture can be accomplished with ease and facility.
By providing the hook-and-socket connection between the album-leaves and the caseI am also enabled to remove bodily one set of album-leaves from the case and substitute therefor an entirely new set.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of a case having a base, to which it is secured, and a laterally-opening door with a set of downwardly and outwardly opening album-leaves connected at the bottom by flexible strips and adapted to hold photographic or other pictures and a hookand-socket connection between the back leaf of the set and the back of the case, the hook being free to move up and down in the socket and to be readily removable from the same, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GUSTAVE 'soHwAE.
