Description

(No Modeh A. R. MIRANDA. SOAP HOLDER ATTACHMENT FOR WATER FAUCETS.
Noi 479,330.
a; lllll ITP/ETLLEJ rawn UNITED STATES I PATENT OFFICE.
ABRAHAM R. MIRANDA, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
SOAP-HOLDER ATTACHMENT FOR WATER-FAUCETS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 479,330, dated July 19, 1892,
Application filed March 26, 1892.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it-known that I, ABRAHAM R. MIRANDA, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of Boston,in the county of Sufiolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Soap-Holder Attachment for Water-Faucets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention consists of a soap-holder attachment for water-faucets, whereby the water from the faucet may, if desired, be discharged with or without being charged with soap, all as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure l is a plan View of the soap attachment of this invention for a bib cook or faucet. Fig. 2isa central vertical section, line 2 2, Fig. 1.
In the drawings, A represents a bib faucet or cook of any of the usual or other suitable constructions, and preferably such as is used for hot water in the water system of dwellinghouses and otherbuildings, 860.
B is a pipe, which, as particularly shown, is at one end held on and is in continuation of the nozzle A of the bib, and therefrom passes and opens to the upper portion of a vertical cylindrical vessel 0, which has a perforated bottom 0 and a hinged top or cap 0 for convenience in opening and closing it.
The vessel 0 is for the soap D, which isto be of any suitable kind, and preferably in comparatively small lumps orpieces, so as the better to be exposed to the water from the bib, and which enters the upper portion of the vessel from the pipe B, and thereby to facilitate and secure the impregnation of the water with the soap, or, in other words,.to secure soap suds for discharge at the perforated bottom 0 of the vessel to be used as may be desired.
The Water-pipe connectionB of the bib-nozzle A and the soap-receptacle C has a vertical dip or trap like portion, or, in other words, a descending leg B next adjacent to the nozzle and an ascending leg B next adjacent to the soap-receptacle, both joined at their lower portions or their dip by a more or less hori zontal portion B and all in a manner to re- Serial No. 426,578. (No model.)
duce somewhat the force of the water passing from the bib before it enters the soap-receptacle, and thereby to insure the better charging of the water with soap.
E isadischarge-opening located at the horizontal and lowest portion 13 of the pipe connection B between the bib-nozzle and the soap-receptacle, and F is a plug or stopper suitable when inserted in said opening E to close said opening and when removed therefrom to open it. This stopper F is attached to one end of a chain G, which at its other endis suitably secured tothe soap-receptacle and otherwise, all so that the stopper removed from the opening of the pipe connection is at hand for convenience of being used to close said opening when desired. lVith the pipe connection of bib-nozzle and soap-receptacle closed at its opening E, the water from the bib then passes into and through the soap in the soap-receptacle and out at its perforated bottom impregnated with soap, or, in other words, as soapsuds. With the stopper F removed from the openingE of the pipe connection of the bib-nozzle and soap-receptacle obviously the Water from the bib is discharged before it enters the soap-receptacle, and therefore clear, or, in other words, not impregnated with soap, and the same as if it were directly at and from the faucet.
It is plain from the description given of the soap attachment of this invention that either soapsuds or clear water may at pleasure be obtained from it, according as either the one or the other may be wanted, the advantages of all of which when washing dishes and at other times are obvious without particular mention.
As particularly shown, the holding of the attachment of this invention on the bib-nozzle is by forcing the open end of the pipe connection over the outside of the nozzle and packing the joint with a piece of rubber tubing H. WVhile this is practical, yet it is not intended to limit this invention as to the attachment described to it, nor to any particular means of holding the attachment either on the bib or otherwise, so that the water passing from the bib shall be run or conducted through the soap-receptacle.
Having thus described my invention, What lower portion having adischargeorifice adapted to be opened and closed, all as described, for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing I 5 witnesses.
ABRAHAM R. MIRANDA. Witnesses:
ALBERT W. BROWN, MARY W. STORER.
