SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 706,971, dated August 12, 1902.
Application filed November 20,1901. Serial No. 88,032. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT LOGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at and whose post-oflice address is Sharptown, in the county 0t Salem and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Slop-Pai1s, of which the following is specification. I
This invention relates to slop-pails; and the object of the same is to provide a'siinplc and effective receptacle for receiving bedroomslops having a compartment inthe bottom thereof for hot water, so that the latter may be conveniently carried with the pailand used for rinsing the bedroom vessels,to thoroughly cleanse and relieve said vessels of all obnoxious odors. V
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a slop-pail embodying the features of the invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the same.
Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the views.
The numeral 1 designates a pail formed of sheet metal, preferably of a non-corrosive nature, and provided with a bail 2 and lid 3. The lower end of the pail, around the bottom 4,has a flared supporting-flange 5, the bottom 4 being horizontally disposed, as in ordinary devices of this character. At a suitable elevation above the bottom l is an inclined supplemental bottom 6, and in the body of the pail, below and close to the highest portion of said bottom 6, an inlet-opening '7 is formed for access to the chamber or compartment confined between the bottoms 4 and 6 and the portion of the body of the pail between said bottoms. The opening 7 has an upstanding outwardly-flared or upwardly-inclined inletspout 8, surrounding the same and normally closed by a drop-lid 9. At a point diametrically opposite to the opening 7 and communicating with the contracted portion of the chamber or compartment between the bot- By locating the cook or faucet at the most contracted portion of the hot-water chamber or compartment the latter can be completely drained, and the flow through the cook or faucet will be more regular.
- The chamber or compartment between the bottoms l and 6 is to receive hot water and is filled before carrying the pail to a bedroom.
receiving chamber above the bottom 4.
The improved pail will avoid the employment of two separate receptacles to arrive at the result attained by the use of the one improved device, and a great saving in labor will ensue.
Having thus fully described the invention, whatis claimed as new is A slop-pail having the usual bottom, an inclined supplemental bottom arranged at an elevation above the said pail-bottom to form a hot-water compartment, the body of the pail having an inlet-opening therethrough at the highest portion of the said compartment and from which point the supplemental bottom inclines downwardly toward the opposite portion of the pail to contract the said chamber, the portion of the pail-body above the supplemental bottom being free of obstructing devices and adapted to serve as a containing-receptacle, an outwardly-projected, upwardly-inclined inlet-spout around the inletopening of the body at a plane below the highest portion of the supplemental bottom and provided with a covering device, and a faucet communicating with the lowermost contracted portion of the said compartment at a point diametrically opposite the said opening.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
