UNITED TATES ATENT FFICE.
ANDREW ROOKFELLOWV, OF SOUTH RIOHLAND, NEIV YORK.
STOCK-WATERING APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 479,197, dated July 19, 1892.
Application filed October 12, 1891. Serial No. 408,428. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANDREW ROOKFELLOW, a citizen of the'United States, residing at South Riohland, in the county of Oswego and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stock-\Vatering Apparatus; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in stock-watering apparatus; and the object of my invention is the provision of an apparatus which can be easily and cheaply applied to a structure and which will be strong and durable and thoroughly efficient for the intended purpose.
To attain the objects stated, my invention consists of a novel combination and arrangement of parts for service, substantially as illustrated, described, and claimed.
In order that the construction, operation, and advantages of my improvement may be readily understood, I have illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents an elevation of my apparatus with one of the drink-cups in section and the tank in a vertical position, and Fig. 2 represents a plan View thereof.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A designates the tank or reservoir of suitable shape and capacity, which leads to the elbow B, that communicates with and is adapted to turn on the supply-pipe O, and on the supplypipe are three-way couplings E, from which lead the elbows F, having the drink-cups G, provided with strainers H. The elbows may be turned in the coupling to bring them close to or at a distance from the supply-pipe at the convenience of the user, according to circumstances, and the dishes extend above the supply-pipe, and the dishes are supplied with the proper amount of water by elevating the tank gradually as the water is removed from the dishes, thus insuring the proper amount of water in the dishes. The supply-pipe at its other end is connected to an elbow K, adapted to turn, if desired, and communicating with the elbow is a flexible pipe J, adapted to be raised and lowered by the cord or chain L, passing over pulleys M, for the purpose of discharging the water when desired. The advantage gained by making the discharge-pipe flexible is that the water can be discharged wherever desired and may be utilized for such purpose as irrigating. The supply-pipe may be turned in an opposite direction to the elbow by the lever D to discharge the contents of the dishes or to permit cleaning of the same.
It will be understood that the water in the tank passes into the drink-dishes, and as the water is removed from the dishes the tank is elevated to bring the water therein on a line with the water in the dishes, and thus drain the tank and keep all the dishes full until the tank is emptied.
I claim- 1. A stock-watering apparatus consisting of a tank, an elbow communicating with the tank, a supply-pipe, said elbow being adapted to turn on the supply-pipe, the couplings on the supply-pipe, and the elbows leading from the couplings and carrying drink cups or receptacles.
2. A stock-watering apparatus consisting of a tank, an elbow communicating with the tank, a supply-pipe, said elbow being adapted to turn on the supply-pipe, the couplings on the supply-pipe, the elbows leading from the couplings and carrying drink-cups, the flexible discharge-pipe and connections for raising and lowering the same, and the lever c011- nected to the supply-pipe, all substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ANDREWV ROCKFELLOIV. XVitnesses:
