NECK-STOCK.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 4,788, dated October 3, 1846.y

To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES FANsHAw, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Securing to the Neck a Stock and for a More Perfect Adjustment of the Same; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description, reference being had to the' annexed drawing and making part of this specification.

Figure l represents a stock frame; and the metallic band or spring B, B, sewed, or otherwise secured to the middle, or center portion, of the stock frame, and parallel with the edges of the frame, the ends of the spring terminating at or near A, A. The object of the spring (which is made of any suitable material) is to dispense with the buckle, or other fastening and also to secure the stock more comfortably to the neck of the wearer, at the same timev tis more easily put on and taken from the neck, than any other hitherto invented.

In the drawing the stock is represented eX- 2, represents a plan view of o-ne of the springs: this` spring after being properly tempered for this purpose will assume the form (or nearly so) as represented, and it is desirable that springs for' this purpose, be very perfectly tempered and very elastic, otherwise they will be broken in putting them on the neck or removing them from it. l/Vhat I claim as new and of my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The intro-duction and application of an elastic metallic or other band to a stock frame for the neck, for the purposes as herein substantially set forth.
