0. R. ROBINSON. RfED-UCER AND NOZZLE POR HOSE.
Patented June 28, `189.2.
onlus Patins c., Horb-urna., wAsHmo ou o c UNITED y STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CYRUS R. ROBINSON, OF EAST CONCORD, NEW `HAMPSHIRE.
REDUCER AND NOZZLE FOR HOSE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 477,824, dated .Tune 28, 1892.
Application filed December 26, 1890. Serial No. 375,791. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, CYEUs R. ROBINSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Concord, in the county of Merrimac and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reducers and Nozzles for Hose; and I do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable ot-hers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make anduse the same. Y
This invention relates to lire-hose, the object being to provide, in combination with a tip or nozzle of any desired bore, a short coup# ling for attaching to an endV of hose and quickly reducing the size of the stream before it shall have entered the discharge-nozzle.
The invention will he readily understood by reference to the following specification and claim, and to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, of which- Figure l shows my improved reducer and discharge-nozzle in elevation. Fig. 2 is asectional elevation of same, and Fig. 3 is an end view. i
The reducer A may be provided with one or more partitions a, running longitudinally therein,.as seen in Figs. 2 and 3, for the pur-v pose of taking the twist or rotary motion out of the water before it reaches the discharge tip or nozzle B. One end of the reducerA is provided with an internal thread a', which fits one end of asection of hose, and the other end has an external thread a2, to which various sizes of tips or nozzles B may be threaded. l
Patent, is-
`and, if desired, loose rings b b may be mounted, one near either end, each of said rings being provided'witl eyes b and straps C, at-
` tached to said rings, and connecting one ring with the other form handles by which the nozzle may be held. By this construction the long discharge-pipe, as it is familiarly called, and which is usually from three to four feet in length and tapering, is dispensed with, the short reducer and nozzle serving as a substitute therefor with advantage, as it is but from' eight to ten inches in length and can be carried and handled more readily, and various sizes of tips or a shut-off nozzle may be oarried in ones pocket for applying to the reducer when needed.
Having described my improvement, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters The combination of a short reducer for firehose, having an internal thread at oneend and Y In testimony whereof I attix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CYRUS R. ROBINSON.
