Be itknown that I, EUGENE L. HOWE, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Haine-Tugs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in whicl1` Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved metallic llame-tug. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof on the line II II of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of a portion of the device, showing the means for attaching the slide. Fig. 1 is a cross-section on the line IV 1V of Fig. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of a modification of my invention. Fig. 6 is a cross-section on the line VI VI of Fig. 5. Fig. 7 is a bottom plan view of the same modification.
The subject of my invention is a metallic haine-tug having a movable slide to which the back and belly bands may be secured and having means for adjusting' the length of the trace by a hook adapted to tit into any one of a number of holes in the hame-tug. culiar constructions of the parts in which these features consist are claimed separately by me, and I desire to cover each without limitation to the use of the others.
In the drawings in which like numerals indicate corresponding parts, 2 is the haine-tug body or plate, made of metal and having at its ends the loops 3 and 4, the loop 3 serving for attachment to the section, by which it is secured to thehame, while through the raised loop 4f passes the trace 5, to the end of which is attached ametal piece having a hook 6. This hook is preferably provided at its end with a central vertical web 7, and when so constructed I call it a webhook. The holes Sin the haine-tug for the reception of the hook are provided with lugs 9, which extend from each side and are adapted to engage the hook at the sides of the web, which liesin the space between their ends. This vweb greatly strengthens the hook, and since when the trace is drawn taut the strain is brought against the shoulder 10 on the body of the haine-t ug against wh ich the shank of the hook bears the lugs themselves are relieved of strain. This is desirable; but the broader claims of this application are not limited to The pethe bearing of the hookagainst the shoulder. At the rear end of the metal haine-tug, but in advance of thc loop at, there are formed parallel slide pieces or rods 11, upon which I tita slide 12, having the upper and lower loops 13. This slide is attached to the slide pieces or rods by downwardly projecting flanges 14, which may be bent so as to em brace the rods, as shown in Fig. 3, thus holding the slide in place and enabling it to be moved back and forth.
In Fig. 5 I show a modification wherein the slide-pieces are constituted by two marginal ribs formed on the body of the hame-tug and connected by a web 15. In thiscase only two flanges l1 are used, one on each edge of the slide.
Itis shown in Fig. 2 that the portions of the loop 4 and body of .the hame-tug adjoining the ends of the rods 1l are more prominent than the surface of the slide 12 and than the securing-lugs of the slide, so that the slide may move freely beneath the trace without being held by it or by the strap 17 and that the belly-band and back-band may automatically adjust themselves. This hame-tug is easily cast in a single piece of metal and requires no macl1ine-\vo.k, it being attached to the leatherstrap 17 by rivets fixed in projecting lugs 1G, as shown.
The advantages of my device lie in the ease of manufacture, its strength, and the perfect working of the parts, the slide being attached by merely bending the iiangcs around the rods or slide-pieces- Many changes may be made in the form and arrangement of the parts without variance from my invention, since Vhat I claim is- 1. A haine-tug provided with a metal iframe having side bars or ribs and a slide having a loop or loops at its ends and flanges bent in opposite directions to substantially inclose the side bars or ribs,substantially as described.
2. A haine-tug comprising a metal body portion having a metal loop connected thereto by rods or ribs and a slide having a loop or loops at its ends, and flanges bent in opposite directions to substantially inclose the rods or ribs, substantially as described.
3. A llame-tug having a body portion provided with means for attachment of the tug- IOO hook, and a Slide movable upon a section of hebody portion and having` anges bent in opposite directions, the parts of said body portion ad jacent to the slide being higher than the slide, whereby friction ofthe tug and slide is prevented, substantially as described.
4. A hame-ug comprising a body portion.
having hook-holes, oppositely-eXtending lugs in said holes, a hook arranged to engage the lugs, a loop connected tosaid body portion by Io rods or ribs, and a slide movable thereupon, substantially as described.
