HARRISON B. MEECH, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
INCANDESCENT ELECTRIC LAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 475,698, dated May 24, 1892.
' Application filed November 10, 1890- Serial No. 370,975. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, HARRISON B. MEECH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Incandescent Electric Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to incandescent electric lamps, the object of the present improvement being to provide means whereby the illuminating properties of the incandescent electric light is increased in a very effective manner. I attain such object by means substantially as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which is represented in sectional elevation my improved lamp construction.
Referring to the drawing, 1 represents an incandescent lamp or series of lamps, and 2 a glass globe inclosing the same. In the present invention the joint of the globe 2, with the socket or holder of the lamp, is made gastight by suitable sealing means, and the interior of the globe is filled with a suitable light-retracting gas-such, for instance, as oxygen, hydrogen, &c.whieh I find from practical experiment gives an added brilliancy to the light from the lamps.
The portion of the globe opposite to its attaching-neck is depressed, as shown, into an inverted-cone or substantially a cone formation 3, as shown, that is rendered reflective in any usual and approved manner, so as to constitute a reflector for the lamp-globe at such point.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An electric lamp comprising, in combination, a series of electric lights 1, an inclosing glass globe 2 therefor, having an invertedcone-shaped top 3, and a reflective covering for such cone, as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof witness my hand this 8th day of November, 1890.
HARRISON B. MEEC H.
