STAND OR RACK FOR HAND-STAMPS.

Be it known that I, ERNEST J. KLINean- BERG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Eau Claire, in the county of Eau Claire and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stands or Racks for Hand-Stamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will en able others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in racks or stands for holding hand-stamps; and the objects of the invention are, first, to provide a rack or stand of simple construction which will accommodate a great number of stamps and from which a person can remove any desired stamp without changing his position, and, secondly, to provide a rack or stand which will keep the type-faces of the stamps protected from dust, &c.

With these and other ends in view my invention consists of a suitable base or support adapted to receive an inking-pad, a casing mounted on said base or support and adapted to rotate freely thereon, said casin g being provided with a series of smooth flat faces, and means for suspendinga hand-stam p from each of said faces.

My invention further consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts, as willbe hereinafter more fully pointed out and claimed.

I have illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a rack or stand constructedin accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modified form of my invention.

Like letters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings, referring to which- A designates the base-block or pedestal of my improved rack or stand, which is preferably provided with a drawer B,de'signed to receive an inking-pad.

O designates a vertical stud or post, which is rigidly secured to or made integral with the base A, and on this stud or post is fitted, so as to rotate freely thereon, the main body D of the rack or stand. The circumference of the body D is composed of a series of flat faces E, each of sufficient width to accommodate or receive the face of a hand-stamp. Near its upper end each face is provided with a label-receiving recess or slot F, and a short distance below such recess is secured a hook G, from which a hand-stamp H is adapted to be suspended by means of an eye L, secured in one end thereof.

The stamp is held in position with its handle extending outwardly and its type-face resting against the flat face E. The hooks Gare preferably secured in the faces E of the rack or stand, as shown in Fig. 2-that is, the inner end of each hook is lower than the outer end thereof, so that when the eye L of one of the stamps is placed around the hook the stamp will move by gravity along the hook until its type-face comes in contact or rests against the face E to protect it, as hereinafter described.

It will be noticed that the stamp contacts with the face E throughout the whole of its typeface, both as to length and width, and such face is thus kept free from dust, &c. If desired, the faces E may be coated with paraffine, glass, or other suitable material which will not absorb ink and which can be easily cleaned.

The eye L not only serves as a means for suspending the stamp, but it also indicates to the person using the same the proper position in which to hold it in order that the imprint therefrom may appear correctly as regards the surface on which it is placed.

In Fig. 3 I have illustrated a modified construction of my improvements, in which I have two racks or stands D, both loosely mounted 011 an upright or standard 0, attached to a suitable base A.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, it will be seen that I have provided a simple and attractive appearing stand or rack which can be made to accommodate any desired number of stamps, from which a person can remove any desired stamp without changing his position and which will keep the type-faces of the stamps clean and free from dust, &c.

In case the stand is made to accommodate a large number of stamps it maybe found desirable, instead of placing alabel in the re cesses F, to number the facesE' of the stand or rack and place opposite each number on a suitable index-plate the word or words found on the stamp which is kept on the face bearing that number.

I am aware that changes in the form and proportion of parts and details of construction of the devices herein shown and described can be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages of my improvements. For instance, the main portion D of the stand or rack may be made from a solid piece of wood or other material or made hollow, as desired. I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention. 5

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A stand or rack for hand-stamps, consistingof a base provided with a drawer to rece ive an inking-pad, a body mounted on said base and provided with a series of flat faces, each of said faces being provided with a la- Del-receiving recess or slot, and a hook adapted to support a hand-stam p and keep the typeface thereof in contact with the face of the stand, substantially as described.

2. A stand or rack for hand-stamps, consisting of a base and a body mounted and adapted to turn freely on the base and provided with the fiat surfaces, which are coated with any suitable non-absorbent substance,each of said faces being provided with a hook adapted to receive an eye secured in one end of a handstalnp, so as to support said stamp and keep the type-face thereof in contact with the face of the stand, substantially as described.

The combination,withahand-stamp having an eye secured in one end, of a base, a body mounted and adapted to turn freely on the base and provided with the flat surfaces, which are coated with any suitable non-absorbent substance, and a hook secured in each of said faces and adapted to receive the eye in iheend of the stamp and keep the type-face thereof in contact with the face of the stand, substantially as shown and described.
