be conveniently applied to the head, and thus protect the face, neck, and head from injury, and to be capable ofpermitting of a free action of the head of the user in `looking up or down without displacing the mask, and to provide for a temporary opening or raising of the face-protecting portion of the mask when the user is performing other than dangerous work and does not require the same, and for an easy closing of said face-protecting portion when about to perform a duty of danger.

With the above objects in View the invention consists in certain features of construction hereinafter specified, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a mask constructed in accordance with my invention, the same being applied in position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a mask in detail. Fig. 3 is aseotion of the same.

Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the gures of the drawings.

In forming the mask or protector I construct the same of a front face-section and a rear head-section, (designated as l and 2, respectively.) These sections each consist of a substantially inverted- U-shaped metal frame y 3, to which is connected the edges of the reticulated wire protecting-frames 4. The rear frame 3 fits Within the front frame, and the two are pivotally connected at opposite sides by means of a pair of bolts 5, passed between the two frames 3 or through the same, as may be desired, and provided upon their outer sides with disks or washers 5. By adjusting the bolts in the perforations of the band the mask may be properly balanced thereon and the band adjusted in size to t the head of the wearer.

In applying the mask it is simply necessary to swing the lower ends of the sections apart and insert the head within the ring 8. This ring supports the mask above the head and out of contact therewith, and being pivoted to the sections permits of a raising and lowering of the head without any disarrangement of the mask, so that a bottler, blacksmith, ireman, or other person is not interfered with in his work, While at the same time his face, head, and neck are preserved against injury from blazingbrands, the glass of bursting bottles, sparks, dac.
