SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 473,853, dated April 26, 1892.

Be it known that I, MURRAY M. RAYMOND, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Corry, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chimney-Tops; to be a a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.

My invention consists in the improvements in chimney-tops hereinafter set forth and eX- plained, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a chimney with my improved chimney-top in place thereon. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my improved chimney-top ready to be placed upon a chimney. Fig. 8 is a perspective view of one of the sections of the same, a portion thereof being broken away. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modied form of the sections of my improved chimney-top. Y

The object of my invention is to construct a chimney-top of sections of like form and size bolted together, so as to form a complete top, these sect-ions being of such size that a suiicient number of them secured together will form a top for any-sized chimney.

In the construction of my improved chimney-top shown in the drawings, A is a chimney, and B is my improved top thereon. This top B, I make of rectangular sections C, preferably cast of metal in the form of a hollow box or shell, or made of terra-cotta or other suitable material and of like shape, these sections O being made twice as long as they are wide and half as deep as they are Widethat is to say, of the same proportions as an ordinary brick. Centrally in the ends of each of the sections C, I make holes o, and in the sides of .each of the sections C, near one end thereof, I make holes d, these holes ct and d being so located in the sections O that only one form and shape of section is required, of which a sufficient number of duplicates are secured together by means of bolts D to complete the chimney-top, as illustrated in Fig. 2.

In place of the holes a and d, hereinbefore described, in the sections C, I can with equal facility use slots ct and d therein, as illusgated in the modified construction shown in Having thus fully described my invention, so as to enable others to construct and use the same, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

l. A chimney-top section consisting of a hollow rectangular block having holes or slots in the sides of the block near one end thereof and also holes or slots in the ends thereof, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. A chimney-top consisting of a series of hollow retangular blocks or sections, as C, secured together at the sides and ends of the chimney by means of bolts, as D, passing through holes or slots in the ends thereof, and at the corners of the chimney by bolts D passing through holes or slots in the side of one block and in the end of the adjoining block, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
