FIRE POT.

. UNITED STATE PATENT OFFICE.

FIRE-POT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 258,016, dated May 16, 1882.
" Application'filed April 8, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VoLUsIN BUDE, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fire-Pots, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to fire-pots which are formed of sections; and it consists of a number of T-shaped sect-ions providedwith ton gueand-groove joints and bound together by a ring embracing the outer parts of said sections, their upper and lower ends being fur ther secured by flanged rings, as is hereinafter fully set forth.
In order that my invention may be fully understood, I will proceed to describe it with reference to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section of my improved fire-pot. Fig.2 is a horizontal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a detached view of one of the sections. Fig.4is a crosssection of the binding-ring.
j The fire-pot is composed of a number of sections, A, t which are T-shaped, each being formed of a cross-end, a, and a projecting portion, b. The part a is provided with a tongue, 0, at one side and a groove, d, at the opposite side, said tongue and groove extending the entire length of the section. The part b projects from the cross-end a mid way of its width, and is ot' increasing depth from the upper to the lower ends of the section, as seen in Fig. 3. These sectionsA are placed vertically side by side, the tongue of one section entering the adjacent groove of the adjoining section, and their upper and lower ends are embraced by two rings, 13 B. These rings B B are each formed with a flange,c, resting against the inner face of the fire-pot, as seen in Fig. 1.
The fire-pot thus formed is provided with a metal ring, 0, which is of such diameter as to be passed down over the ends of parts b to a suitable point, thus uniting the sections firmly together. This ring may be cylindrical in cross-section, or it may be of flat form; but I prefer to construct it semi-cylindrical, as seen in Fig. 4, the plane face f of such ring being on an oblique line to the radius, so as to ap- 5o proximate the obliquity of the outer edges of parts b.
ltis evident from the above description that my improved fire-pot may be of any desired form-that is to say, round, oval, or squarein plan view; further, that any number ofrings or braces b may be used; and, also, that the sections A may be secured to the parts B B by means of bolts or rivets in any suitable position without in either or in all instances departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. A fire-pot the walls of which are formed of a series of T-shaped sections, the parts b of which are of increasing depth from top to bottom, in combination with one or more binders, O, embracing the outer edges of parts b, as shown and described.
2. Ina fire-pot, the sections A, provided with tongues c and grooves d, and parts b, of increasing depth, as described, in combination withone or more binders, G, as set forth.
3. In a fire-pot, the parts B B, of annular form or otherwise, as described, and provided with the flanges e, in combination with the sections A and one or more binders, O, as set forth.
VOLU SIN BUDE.
