NITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
FRANK R. VODWARD, OF HILL, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
CAKE-CUTTER.
l SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 473,281, dated April 19, 1892.
A Application filed August 20, 1891. Serial No. 403,182. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK R. WOODWARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hill, in the county of Merrimac and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cake-Cutters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, rand exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide a cake-cutter with detachable expellers capable of imprinting various marks upon the cakes.
The invention will be readily understood by referen ceto the accompanying drawings, formy ing a part of the following specification and claim, of whichy Figure l shows my improved cutter in crosssection, and Fig. 2. is -a sectional plan view of the same.
The cutter A is Secured to one end of a tube B, the center of the latter being in line with a concentric opening in the former, through which passes the stem C of the expeller D. The lower surface of the expeller D may be left plain or made corrugated, as seen in the drawings, and a suitable spring-catch E is secured to the upper top surface of the cutter A and adapted to rest normally against the stem C below its shoulder c by means of a slot or opening b in the tube B, which is preferably eovered by a wooden handle F.
The expeller D is maintained in a position near the lower edge of the cutter by a spring marked or creased with any design desired.
It is obvious that the spring Gmay be made of the proper tension to cause the eXpeller to mark any fancy design upon the cookies or snaps while being forced upward by the dough, and that any number of eXpellers may be provided with each cutter, each eXpeller having a different design-Such, for instance, as a cross, leaf, ortlower-and by aid of the springcatch E said eXpellers are readily removed for the purpose of cleaning or to be replaced by one of a different design.
Having described my invention, what I claim is-- l A cake-cutter provided with a detachable automatic expeller and a suitable spring-retaining catch, whereby various expellers may be readily inserted, substantially for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK R. WOODWARD.
