PLOW-HANDLE CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 472,657, dated April 12, 1892. Application filed May 13, 1891. Renewed January 12, 1892. Serial No. 4l7i (N0 111011813 T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES LARENCE ORR KING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fair Play, in the county of Oconee and State of South Carolina, have invented anew and useful Plow-Handle Clamp, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in plow attachments.
The objects of the present invention are to simplify and improve the construction of the means for securing the handles of a plow to the beam and to provide a simple and inexpensive clip adapted to permit the handlebars of a plow to be adjusted and arranged at any desired angle to the plow-beam.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plow-beam and handle-bars secured together by clip-plates constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the plates.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a plow-beam, and 2 handle-bars having their lower ends secured on opposite sides of the plow-beam near the rear end thereof by clip-plates 3 and bolts 4. The clipplates are constructed of metal and are approximately rhomboidal, the ends being slightly concavely curved, and the clip-p ates are provided at their sides with inwardly-extending flanges 5, which are arranged at the ends of the plates and are slightly less in width than the thickness of the handle-bars, thereby enabling the clip-plates to exert a positive clamping action. The flanges 5 are arranged at the ends of the clip-plates and the latter are provided intermediate their ends with curved extensions 6, having curved or arc-shaped slots 7, through which pass the bolts 4 which secure the clip-plates to the plowbeam and which enable the handle-bars to be adjusted relative to the beam and be arranged at the desired angle. By slightly loosening the bolts 4 the plow-handles may be shifted and their angle changed to suit the operator.
It will be seen that the clip for securing plow-handles to abeam is simple and inexpensive in construction and is adapted to exerta positive clamping action on the handles and is capable of enabling the handle-bars to be quickly and easily adjusted and arranged at the desired angle to the plow-beam.
WVhat I claim is 1. The combination, with a plow-beam and handle-bars, of the clipplates provided at their sides with flanges to engage the sides of the handle-bars and having curved slots 6 to enable the handle-bars to be adjusted at the desired angle, and bolts arranged in the slots and securing the clip-plates to the plow-beam, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with a plow-beam and handle-bars, of the clip -plates provided at their sides with flanges and having curved extensions and provided in the extensions with curved or arc-shaped slots 6, adapted to receive bolts for clamping the clip-plates to the plow-beam, whereby the handle-bars may be adjusted and arranged at the desired angle, substantially as described.
