WAGON EN D-GATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 470,465, dated March 8, 1892. Application filed April 21, 1891- Serial No. 389,864- (No model.)

The object of the invention is to provide an improved construction of a combined endgate and shoveling-board which can be easily changed from one to the other, and which can also be readily removed from and replaced on the wagon when desired.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an end view of a wagon-body with improved end-gate and shoveling-board applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same, the gate being in position to be used as a shoveling-board. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the sides of the endgate detached. Fig.4: is a similar View of the end-gate.
1n the said drawings the reference-letter a designates the wagon-body, which may be of any ordinary construction.
The letter Z) denotes the end-gate or board, provided with triangularly shaped metallic sides 0 0, having flanges c c, by which they are secured to the gate or board. The forward ends of these side pieces are bent outwardly and provided with apertures, so that the hooks hereinafter described will readily engagetherein.
The outer face of the board I) is provided with hooks cl, which engage with staples in the ends of the wagon-body for holding the gate in a vertical position. The lower ends of the side pieces 0 are provided with outwardly-projecting studs f, which work in ways f, formed by the vertical cleats g, secured to the ends of the wagon-body.
Passing through the sides of the wagonbody are hooks h, which engage with apertures 72. in the sides 0 and hold the gate in place when used as a shoveling-board. The sides a c are also provided with apertures t t', which are aligned or register with apertures t z" in the wagon-body when the gate is closed. A rod j passes through these apertures and holds the gate in position.
The operation of the invention will be readily understood, and no detailed description is therefore deemed necessary.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The combination, with a wagon-body provided with vertical cleats g g and inwardlyprojecting hooks h it, of the combined endgate and shoveling-board provided with side pieces 0 0, having their forward ends bent outwardly and formed with apertures It and provided with studs fand apertures 1, substantially as and forthe purpose set forth.
