BEDSTEAD-BRACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 469,081, dated February 16, 1892.
Application filed October 15,1891. Serial No. 408,785- (No model.)
State of North Carolina, have invented new" and useful Improvements in Clamping Devices for'Bedsteads, Tables, Desks, &c., of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved clamping device for holding the sides of bedsteads and other articles of furniture having rectangular frames in parallel positions.
The invention also relates to the combination, with a bed-brace, of a frame adapted to fit thereon and support the central part of the bed spring or slats, as hereinafter described.
The accompanying drawing is a perspective view of my invention complete with dotted outlines of a bed-frame.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement, as hereinafter described, of a set of four metallic plates A A A" A', which are secured to the under surfaces of the sides of the bed-frame or other article of furniture to be braced by means of woodscrews 1) b b" b'. Each plate is provided with a perforated inner end, parallel sides, and beveled outer end, the latter provided with a turned-up flange, as shown at c c c" c'.
As above indicated, four plates constitute a set, two of which have their flanged edges inclined to the right and two to the left, so that the duplicate plates may be secured diagonally opposite one another and their conmeeting-braces E F be made to cross each other, as shown.
Each brace is composed of two rods 9 it, having hooked outer ends to engage the plates A A A" A and inner ends provided with heads and screws, respectively, as shown.
Swivel-frames I are fitted on the said inner' ends of the rods to permit of their being drawn toward one another or be otherwise adjusted.
The peculiarity of my brace is that the rods cross one another and connect with angleplates that are applied to the sides of the furniture-frame, thus insuring rigidity to the Whole structure without injury to any part thereof.
The letter L designates asled-shaped frame composed of side pieces m m and connectingrods 01 n. The lower edges of the side pieces are notched, as at 0 0, so as to rest securely on the braces, as shown, and thus form a central support for a bed spring or slats.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination with a bed-frame, a pair of diagonally-arranged sectional braces, connectin g swivel-frames, and beveled fasteningplates, as described, with a detachable sledshaped frame, the side pieces of the latter notched, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
