CAKE-CUTTER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 468,836, dated February 16, 1892.

Application filed May 25, 1891. Serial No. 393,958. (No model.)

Be it known that I, LEVI W. SNELL, of Utica, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Cake-Cutters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improved cakecutter.

with piece of cut dough. Fig. 7 is an enlarged sectional detail of construction of follower.

Referring to the reference-numerals in a more particular description of the device, 1 indicates the cutter, which is shown circular in the drawings, but may be of any other outline. The cutter is provided with a handle 2, bowing over the open top of the cylinder, and a cross-bar 3, spanning the open top of the cylinder of the cutter. Secured to the bar 3 is a spiral spring 4., which has secured at its opposite end a follower 5. The follower 5 is formed concave on its under side, and is provided with a central opening 6. The follower is also formed with a semicircular cake-engaging rim 5, substantially at the border of the concave portion, and on the outside of the rim 5 with an outwardly and upwardly extending flange 5", the periphery of which flange runs in contact with or close to the inside wall of the cutter.

In addition to the above the device may be provided with a connection or connections 7, between the cross-bar 3 and the follower, to limit the outward movement of the follower and also to guide it in its movements, and these connections maybe made telescopic, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5.

The operation of the device is so simple and so generally understood as not to require description. When the cutter is struck into a sheet of dough, the follower is forced upward in the cylinder of the cutter against the tension of the spring, and when withdrawn the follower eXpels the cake.

It will be understood that the rim 5 only comesin contact with the dough cake, except perhaps in the case of soft dough, when the flange 5 would also eugage it, and the conconcavity of the follower and perforation therein prevent the cake from adhering by suction to the follower.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination, with a cake-cutter, of

a concave follower 5, having a rim 5 and a spring for actuating the follower, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination, with a cake-cutter, of a perforated concave follower 5, having semicircular rim 5 inclined flange 5", and spring 4 for actuating the follower, substantially as set forth.
