CANDLE-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 468,363, dated February 9, 1892.

Be it known that I, VVILLIAM II. POHLMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Candle-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in candle-holders, the features of which will be fully hereinafter described and claimed.

The object of my invention is to hold a candle securely in a vertical position, and in the holding thereof the binding parts are adjustable and therefore adapted to hold candles varying slightly in diameter.

1 accomplish the object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same, not showing the flexible supports. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of part D on line 00, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a top view, omitting the flange.

A isa thin metallic case open at the top and slotted in the side for the screw. The flange B may be soldered to the top of the case or held ona pivot formed of ascrew, which would engage the threaded orifice 5 of part E.

F are three plates held to the bottom of the case by the springs S S S. The use of these are to support the holderand areinsertedinto the socket of a candlestick, and by the resilience of the springs are made to snugly fill the socket.

The holder can be supported on a bracket, and in such case the arm would be attached to the side of the case. The semicircular part E fills a little more than one-half of the case, to which the same is soldered. The inner surface may be either corrugated or serrated, and in the base is held the adj usting-screw 0, held by collars on both sides. The part D is similar in form to part E,butis less in length and slides into the latter. It is provided with a lug, which is engaged by the adjusting-screw and has an extension 2 at the bottom, within which is the slot 4. The flat headed rivet 3 passes through this slot and the end is secured to the bottom of the case. This so holds the part that it must move parallel with the said bottom. The circular dotted line shows the position of the candle in Fig. 4.

In use a candle is placed within the holder and the screw is turned until the same is firmly bound.

The candle-holder consisting of the case, the divided candle -socket therein composed of rigid section E and the adjustable section D, sliding within the section E, the adjustingscrew passing loosely through section E, and adj ustahle section D, provided with a screwthreaded perforated lug receiving said screw and with a slotted extension 2, confined on the bottom of the casing.
