To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VILLIAM I-I. STRAT- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Light-Shade Brackets, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates to light shade brackets, and more particularly to a flexible adjustable bracket having means to connect the same upon the fixtures of an electrical, gas or other light, and to receive a disk or section of some suitable opaque material, to constitute a shade, my object being toconstruct a bracket in such a manner that it will be durable and capable of maintaining itself in a desired position of adjustment, while my primary object is to construct the bracket in such a manner, and so cheaply, as to permit of its use as an advertising novelty.

With this in mind my invention resides in the particular features of construction to be hereinafter described with respect to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is an elevation illustrating one use of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the connected ends of a pair of bracket rods, and Fig. 3 is an elevation of the shade disk and its holder adapted for connection with the bracket rods when the device is utilized as an advertising novelty.

Referring now to these figures, the rod 5 forming a part of the bracket, is provided with loops or-eyes 6 and 7 at opposite ends thereof, the loop or eye 7 being loosely secured by fastening means 8 to one leg of a clamp suitably constructed to engage a light fixture A, the clamp which I have shown comprising a pair of jaws 9 and 10, intermediately pivoted by side pieces 11 having arcuate. pivot slots 12 so that the jaws 9 and 10 may be adjusted toward and away from one another and adapted for engagement with light fixtures of various sizes. The

jaws 9 and 10 as shown are controlled by a spring 13. The other rod 14, which comprises the bracket proper, has one end formed with a loop or eye 15, and has its opposite end bent at right angles thereto at 16, and coiled at 17 to form a spring, the extremity 18 thereof bent parallel with the portion 16 and having its end 19 flared out- Specification of Letters Patent. wardly, thus forming a substantially U- shaped clasp adapted for engagement within the loop or eye 6 at the adjacent end of the bracket rod 5. The portions 16 and 18, at opposite sides of the spring 17, are bowed outwardly as shown, to prevent displacement from the loop or eye 6. In this manner the bracket rod 14 may be swung at any desired angle with respect to the bracket rod 5, and maintain the desired angle by means of the especial form of connection.

The disk support comprises a vertical stem 20, the upper portion of which is bent to form a circular loop 21, having its extremity 22 bent to upstand within the loop, so that a disk 23 may be held with its edge engaged between the loop 21 and its upstanding piece 22. The lower portion of the support 20 is bent to form a clasp for movable engagement within the loop or eye 15, at the. adjacent end of the bracket rod 14, comprising bowed side pieces 24 and 25, and a coil 26 constituting a spring similar to the corresponding parts 16, 17 and 18 at the opposite end of bracket rod 14.

Where it is desired to use the device as an advertising novelty in connection with a printed disk 27, and it is a consideration to prevent the substitution of other disks, I

preferably dispense with the loop 21 at the upper end of the disk holding stem, and utilize a stem 28 as shown in Fig. 8, the upper end thereof being provided with an eye 29 to which the disk 27 is permanently secured by means of a rivet 30. In this form the lower end of the stem is provided with a clasp comprising bowed side pieces 31 and 32 and a coil 33 forming a spring similar to that of the before described formation of the lower end of stem 20.

Thus from the foregoing it will be seen that I accomplish my aim in the provision of a device which is simple and durable, which may be adjusted to almost any desired position and maintain itself in a selected degree of adjustment, and which is adapted for use as an advertising novelty and capable of construction at a very modest cost.

I claim:

1. A bracket comprising a pair of rods, one of said rods having a loop at one of its ends, and the other rod havingat one of its ends a bend terminating in a spring loop and a spring finger extending therefrom, said bend and finger passing through the loop of the other rod, attaching means connected to one of the rods, and a holder oar ried by the other rod.

2. A bracket comprising a pair of rods, one of said rods having a loop at one of its ends, and the other rod having at one of its ends a bend terminating in a spring loop and a spring finger extending therefrom, said bend and finger passing through the loop of the other rod, and the portions of the bend and the spring which engage said loop being bowed, attaching means connected to one of the rods, and a holder carried by the other rod.
