VEHICLE LAMP-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH W. SPANGEN- BERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Paterson, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vehicle Lamp-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to vehicle lamp supports, and has for its object the production of associated and combined parts of simple and inexpensive nature, and having special construction and particular arrangement with respect one to another, the whole constituting a convenient lamp holder which may be attached to the vehicle in position, and readily detached and removed when desired.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents in cross-section a portion of the body of a vehicle with this invention applied thereto, and showing all parts of this invention assembled. Fig. 2 is an end view of the base block and rod-end holder, and illustrates the devices for holding the end of the rod against displacement up or down or toward either side, yet permitting the end of the rod to be released when desired. Fig. 3 is a front view of the clip for the rod.
In Figs. 2 and 3 the scale of drawing has been slightly increased in aid of clearness of illustration.
The same letter is used to refer to the same part throughout the description and drawings.
The body of the vehicle A has the bottom a to which is attached the base block and rod-end holder B. The holder B has a downwardly-extending curved slot 1) and the rod D has its bent end located in the slot 6. It will be noted, as best shown in Fig. 2, that the bent end of the rod D is provided with a transverse recess cl, and the pivoted button C, having the thumbpiece c, engages the recess (5 of the bent end of the rod D. It will now be understood that the end of the rod is held in the slot 1) against displacement up or down or sidewise, yet by the operation of the button C the end of the rod may be easily released. From the end holder B the rod rises usually in a slanting direction as shown in Fig. 1, and engages the spring clip E. That engagement is sufficient to hold the bend e of the rod in contact with the upper edge of the side of the vehicle body A; In Fig. 1 it will also be observed that the spring clip E has a threaded connection with its socket, and may be removed if desired.
I do not confine myself to any particular form of clip or clamp for the purpose described, as that is a detail that may obviously be varied without' departing from the purview of this invention.
The lamp F, of any chosen kind, may be secured to the upper end of the rod E by means of the customary engagement of the sockets of the lamp with a plntle 7.
Having now described this invent-ion, and explained the mode of its operation, what I claim is 1. In a vehicle lamp support, the combination with a rod, releasable means constructed to be secured to the floor of the body of a vehicle and'to hold the end of the rod, and a clip constructed to be se- J cured to the side of the body of the vehicle and arranged to engage the rod at a distance from the said releasable means and to hold the rod in an inclined position.
2. In a vehicle lamp support, the combination with a rod having its lower end bent at an angle, releasable means constructed to be secured to the fioor of the body of a vehicle and to hold the bent end of the rod against displacement, and a clip constructed to be secured to the side of the body of the vehicle and arranged to engage the rod at a distance from the said releasable means and to hold the rod in an inclined position.
3. In a vehicle lamp support, the combination with a rod having a bent lower end and an intermediate bend constructed to rest upon the upper edge of the said side of the body of a vehicle, of releasable means secured within the body and constructed to hold the bent end of the rod against displacement, and a clip secured within the body of the Vehicle and arranged to engage the rod at a distance from said rod-endholding means.
