PILLOW SHAM HOLDER.
No. 450,817. Patented Apr. 21, 1891.

\VILLIAM L. PEEVERS, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
PlLLOW-SHAM HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 450,817, dated April 21, 1891.
Application filed November 28, 1890- Serial No. 372,948- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. PEEVERs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pillow-Sham Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in pillow-sham holders; and the invention consists in the peculiar c011- struction of the bracket, and especially of the clamp formed upon the bracket, whereby the construction of the parts is simplified, the adjustment of the clamp is more readily accomplished, and the bracket is cheapened in cost of manufacture, all as more fully hereinafter described.
In the drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of my improved bracket and clamp. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section through the clamp, partly in elevation. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the bracket with the extensible jaw of the clamp removed Fig. 4 is a detached perspective view of the extensible jaw.
A is the bracket proper, having a square socket B adapted to receive the ends of the pillow-sham frame. (Not shown.)
C is a spring having its free end extending across the socketB to bear against the square end of the pillow-sham frame to hold it in position.
The bracket has the lateral extension D, to one side of which is secured the post E by means of rivets F. This postis provided with a head G, apertured to receive the shank of the clamp-bolt H, which has a suitable head, and at its rear end is provided with a grooved block I, engaging with the camshaped flange J upon the lever K, pivoted to the post and provided with a suitable finger-piece.
The extension D is provided at its end with the cross-head L, secured at the end of a lug M, extending from the middle of the extension. Between'the extension and the crosshead is formed an inclined guideway N.
O is a jaw having a suitable clamping-arm arranged opposite the bolt H, and centrally slotted to engage with the lug M beneath the cross-head, an enlargementP of the slot at the end allowing of engaging the head into the slot.
Q, are guide-flanges upon the jaw, embracing the sides of the extension and preventing twisting of the jaw.
R is a series of teeth, forming notches, between which the cross-head is adapted to engage, excepting when the jaw is turned at an angle to the extension, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. \Vhen the jaw is brought into parallelism, as shown in full lines in Fig. 2, the cross-head engaging in the notches and the flanges Q. embracing the sides of the extension hold the jaw firmly in position. The bolt H is moved in or out and locked in any adjusted position by the cam upon the lever K, previously described. Thus the bracket may be clamped upon any size of bed-post, and the adjustment may be made quickly and without requiring tools or skill.
IVhat I claim as my invention is In a pillow-sham holder, the combination of the bracket comprising a socket for the frame, and a clamp consisting of a notched extensible jaw, an inclined guide-bearing in the bracket in which said jaw is adapted to slide when the parts are turned at an angle to each other, a cross-head above said guidebearing, adapted to engage with the notches in the jaw and hold itin its adjusted position when the parts are brought into parallelism, a post secured to the frame and having an apertured head, a bolt slidingly secured in said aperture, a grooved block upon said bolt, and a lever pivoted to the post and provided with a cam-shaped flange adapted to engage with the groove in the block, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM L. PEEVERS.
