Description

(No Model.)
J. M. DE WITT.
GAR CHECK. No. 468,061. Patented Feb. 2, 1892.
' WITNESSES: l/VVE/VTOH UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES M. DE XVITT, OF RUTHERFORD, NEV JERSEY.
CAR-CHECK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 468,061, dated February 2, 1892.
Application filed September 2, 1891. fierial No. 404,559. (No model.)
In Fig. 2 is shown an end view of the check- 0 To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES M. DE \VITT, of
Rutherford, county of Bergen, State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Oar- Checks, the same being animprovenient upon that described in Letters Patent of the United States of America granted rne June 17, 1884, No. 300,448, and June 11, 1889, No. 404,901, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to preventing the accidental movement of cars on side tracks and arresting the backward movement of detach ed cars while ascending a grade.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side View of the check-block. Fig. 2 is an end view of same. Fig. 3 is a large View of the pawl. Fig. 4 is another View of the pawl. Fig. 5 is aview of my improvement patented June 17, 1889, No. 404,901. Fig. 6 is a View of the pawl with my improvement attached. Fig. 7 is a View of the checkblock patented June 17, 1884, N 0. 300,448.
The check-block Ahas a lug l) on one side to prevent hook ends of staple-like rod 0 from rising up even with lower edge of checkblock A.
block provided with a lug B on both sides of check-block A. The pawl D has slot and hinged part, as shown in Fig. 3. The pawl D has an attachment E for holding one end of spring F. The spiral springF is attached at one end to pawl D at E and at the other end to lower edge of guard G. This spring F is intended to draw the pawl D back to its proper position with reference to ratchetwheels H and J after the car has moved forward.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The check-block provided with staplelike rods and also with suitable projections above said rods to prevent them from rising up even with the lower edge of the block, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the pawl, ratchetwheels, and the spring F, substantially as described.
JAS. M. DE WITT.
