ZAOHARY T. FAUNCE, OF OAMDEN, NEV JERSEY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CHARLES P. HILLIKER, OF SAME PLACE.
BLACKBOARD-RU LER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 466,226, dated December 29, 1891.
Application filed July 11, 1891. Serial No. 399,158. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, ZACHARY T. FAUNOE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gamden, in the county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Blackboard-Rulers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in beveling the edges of that side of a ruler which bears against the blackboard and providing a longitudinal hand-hold on the opposite side. It is designed for preventing the flour or dust made by the action of the marking-chalk on the blackboard from dusting the person using it. The angular space between the ruler and the board made by beveling catches and holds the flour until the ruler is rcrnoved, when it drops into the article-holder usual to the bottom of like boards.
On reference to the accompanying sheet of drawings, making part of this-specification, Figure lis a view of the back of the ruler and its longitudinal handle. Fig. 2 is a view of the front of the ruler, showing the beveled edges and the handle in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is an end View of the ruler in place against a sectioned blackboard, showing the beveled edges and the hand-hold.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in the several views.
A is a section of a blackboard used in schools for the various purposes of instruction.
B is a ruler for drawing lines with a chalkpencil C on the blackboard, and. D its handhold fixed to and extending longitudinally of its back for facility in holding it at any part of its length.
To protect the person using the ruler from the flour worn oi' the chalk-pencil C, I bevel the edges of the side of said ruler which bear against the blackboard, each slant or incline c being drawn from the board to the edge. The angle or space b,made by beveling, catches the Hour, and thus keeps it from dusting the person engaged. When the ruler is raised from the board, the ilour caught in the angle drops into the usual article-11older-at the bottom.
A blackboard-ruler B, beveled at the edges of the side which bears against the blackboard, in combination with a longitudinal hand-hold D, for the purpose shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aitix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ZAOHARY T. FAUNOE.
