BRICK-TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,785, dated December 22, 1'891.
' Application filed August l2, 189].. Serial Nol 402,441. (No modeld To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES IV. SEYMOUR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hillsborough, in the county of Montgomery and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brick-Carriers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The special object of the invention is to make a vehicle by which one man may take bricks from a machine and deliver them to the kiln without the necessity of touching them with his hands.
Figure l of the drawings is a plan view; Fig. 2, a vertical longitudinal section', and Fig. 3 a transverse vertical section.
In the drawings, A represents'the brickcarrier, having the axle V- shaped, but reversed in position, and supportednpon two ground-Wheels B B, which rotate upon it. The handles a a are held in a horizontal plane, or nearly so, by the legs a a', which may have braces a3 a3.
A is a cross-bar, beneathV which are attached the racks C C, in which are held the ends of the levers D D, fulcrumed at d on the inside of the frame. i
E is a case consisting of shelves e, placed one over another and connected together, each shelf being filled with brick prepared for burning, and yet undivided. The shelves and their contents may be prevented from displacement byawire, which passes over the top, twice through the shelves and undivided layers of clay, and under the bottom, where the ends are tied.
F F are the two sides of the case-holder, each turned inwardly and at a right angle to form the supports ff, on which the case E restsA The sides F F have each a slot f', in which is arranged the rod f2, having at a right angle thereto the piece f3, working hori zout-ally in a guide fi.
In' the piece f3 is a hole through which protrudes the front end of lever D, which is adjustable horizontally. By moving the levers D D to or from each other the sides F F may bring the supports f under the case or away from it. The sides F F are at first spread apart to receive the case Ebetween them, and the supports f f under the case and the lever II is turned from a vertical to a horizontal position on the handles to raise the case above the ground, the right-angled ends h h of the double leverbeing connected by the end-jointed rods I I to the sides F F. The rods I have an extension J, which passes up through a loop-guide K.
L L are clamps which hold one end of the case, while the other end rests against a spring M. The clamps L are pivoted at l Z and connected with two pivoted arms O O on the slide-rod P, which is notched on the under side and, is movable through a slot q in the vertical plate Q. By this means the clamp may be locked on the case.
NVhat I claim as new, and desire to protect b v'Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination, with a hand-vehicle having a V-shaped axle on which the wheels rotate, of the two-part case-holder F F, each part having an inwardly-turned support f for the case ot' bricks and movable laterally, then vertically, to take up the case, or the reverse to deliver them, as described.
2. The combination, with the case-holder F F, of the rods f2, working in slots f thereof, the pieces f3, fixed on and at right angles to rods f2 and working in guides f4, and the horizontally-adjustable levers D D, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination, with the case-holder F F, of the end-jointed rods I I and the double lever II, having right-angled ends 7L, as and for the purpose specified.
et. The combination, with the frame and case-holder, of the clamps L and spring M to hold the case steady and prevent displacement.
5. The combination, with the clamps L L, pivoted at Z Z', of the two end-pivoted rods O O, notched sliderod I), and plate Q, having hole q, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
