4431333114. BED BRACE- Patented Dec. 8, 1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT G. BUSBEA, OF GARNER, ARKANSAS.
BED-BRACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 464,644, dated December 8, 1891.
Application filed March 31, 1891. Serial No. 387,126. (No model.)
T to whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT G. BUSBEA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Garnor, in the county of Vhite and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful Bed-Brace, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in bedstead-braces.
The object of the present invention is to simplify and improve the construction of bedstead-braces, lessen the cost of the same, and enable them to be readily applied to a bedstead and secured at any desired tension.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a bedstead provided with a brace constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is I a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3is a detail perspective view of the tension device.
Referring to the accompanying drawlngs, 1
designates a bedstead composed of side rails.
2and head and foot board 3 and 4, and provided at both ends of each side with hooks 5 and 6, which are secured, respectively, to the side rails and to the posts of the head and foot boards, and are adapted to receive a continuous bracing-wire 7. The bracing-wire 7 has its side portions 8 extended inward to the center of the bedstead and secured to a tension device 9, and the end portions 10 are extended inward and arranged nearly parallel with the adjacent portions of the sides 8 of the wire brace and connected with a turningpin 11 of the tension device by tension-wires 12, whereby the tension of the bracing-wire can be regulated and increased and diminished, as desired.
The tension device consists of a shell 13, provided with the central opening 14, the pin 11, having the tension-wires wound on it in the same direction, but from opposite sides, and the disk 15 formed integral with the turning-pin 11 and arranged within the shell and provided on its outer face with a headed 5o lug 16, around which the side portions of the bracing-wires are passed. The tension-wires 12 pass through openings 17 of the shell or casing and are wound on the turning-pin, which is provided with a transverse perforation to facilitate the attachmentof the wires, and has its outer end 18 squared and adapted to be readily turned by a wrench to tighten the wires.
The tension device is locked and the wires prevented becoming loose by a key 20, which passes through a perforation 21 of the disk and a perforation 22 of the casing or shell, and the disk and shell or casing are provided L/ith a series of perforations to receive the It will be seen that the bedstead-brace is simple and inexpensive in construction, adapted to be readily applied to any bedstead, and is capable of having its tension ad-' justed to any desired degree.
Having described my invention, what I claim is- 4 ,1. The combination, with a bedstead,of the bracing-wire connected to the bedstead, the tension device comprising the shell, the turning-pin, and the disk formed integral with the turning-pin and arranged in the shell and provided with a centrally-arranged lug to receive the brace-wire, and the tensionwires secured to the brace-wire and being wound on the turning-pin, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with a bedstead, provided at both ends of each side with a pair of hooks or eyes, of the continuous brace-wire engaging the hook or eyes and having its wire portions extended inward to the center of the bedstead and its end portions extended inward and arrangedapproximately adjacent parts of the side portions, .the tension device comprisingthe shell or casing provided with wire openings and having a series of perforations and provided with a central opening, the turning-pin arranged in the central opening and having its outer end squared, the disk arranged in the shell and formed integral with the turning-pin and having a series of perforations and provided with a headed lug arranged on the outer face of the disk and adapted to be engaged by the side portions of the hracewire, the tension-Wires my own I have hereto affixed my signature secured to the end portions of the brace-wires in presence of two Witnesses. and passing through the wii'e-openin gs of the tension device and wound upon the turning- 5 pin, and the key engaging the perforations 0f the disk and shell, substantially as de- XVit-nesses: scribed. J. D, HAZLEWOOD,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as T. H. COTTON.
111 ALBERT e. i BUSBEA.
