NITED STATES PATENT OFFicE.
AUGUST HAMELBERG, OF SANTO DOMINGO, SANTO DOMINGO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HENRY FRANKE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
APPARATUS FOR DISTRIBUTING LIQUIDS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. &64,020, dated December 1, 1891.
Application filed June 27, 1891. Serial No. 397,706. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, AUGUST HAMELBERG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Santo Domingo, in the Republic of Santo Domingo, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Apparatus for Distributing Liquids, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improved ma- IO chinery used in treating sugar, and relates especially to an apparatus for distributing liquids containing more or less solid substances or of greater or less vicosity uniformly upon the partially crushed orshredded canes.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts and details, as will be fully described hereinafter, and finally pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is 'a front elevation of my improved apparatus for distributing liquids, parts being broken out; and Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail transverse sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. 7
In the drawings, A represents a tank for receiving the liquid to be distributed upon the cane. The bottom of the tank is connected by a pipe'B, of greater or less length, as circumstances may require, with a cock 0, of any suitable construction. With the bottom flange of said cook the flanged neck D is connected, said neck projecting upward from a cylindrical or like receptacle E, having the heads F,'and provided a short distance above its bottom with the longitudinal slot or opening G, the bottom edge of which is curved downward and outward to form the lip I-I.
Within the cylindrical receptacle E the two inclined deflecting-partitions J and K are arranged one above the other and inclined in opposite directions. The partition K is fastened directly above the opening or slot G and is inclined inward and downward. It is provided at its upper edge with the downwardly-projecting flange L, which is fastened by bolts M to the receptacle E directly above the upper edge of the slot or opening G, so as to facilitate the removing of said deflecting- 5o partition K in case the apparatus becomes clogged by the particles of cane, refuse, or
other matter contained in the liquid passing through the device. So that the liquidis distributed uniformly, the said deflecting-partitions J and K have their upper surface made very slightly convex from end to end. The liquid, passing through the neck D, strikes the deflecting-partition J and runs from the lower edge of the same upon the lower deflecting-partition K and flows from the lower edge of the same upon the bottom of the receptacle E and then in a uniform layer or stream from the lip H upon the shredded or partially-crushed cane. Said lip II also prevents dripping.
This apparatus not only distributes and spreads the liquid uniformly, but prevents all sprinkling and splashing and consequent waste of the liquid.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with a longitudinal vessel or receptacle provided near its bottom with a longitudinal slot or opening, the bottom edge of which is bent to form a lip, of deflecting-partitions arranged within the receptacle one above the other and inclined in opposite directions, and an inlet-neck for said receptacle, which inlet-neck is above the uppermost deflecting-partition, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a longitudinal receptacle provided a short distance above its bottom with a longitudinal slot or opening, the bottom of which is curved to form a lip, of an inlet-neck on the top of said receptacle, two oppositely-inclined deflecting-partitions arranged one a ove the other and extending the entire length of the vessel, the lower one go of said partitions being provided at its upper edge with a downwardly-projecting flange, and bolts securing said flange to the receptacle directly above the top edge of the longitudinal opening, substantially as set forth. 5
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presenceof two subscribing witnesses.
AUGUST HAMELBERG.
