UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK DAMISH, OF GRAHAMS TURNOUT, SOUTH CAROLINA, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN INABNETT DAMISH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
MARKING ATTACHMENT FOR PLOWS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 463,946, dated November 24, 1891.
Application filed June 23, 1891- Serial No. 397,218. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK DAMISH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Grahams Turnout, in the county of Barn- 5 well and State of South Carolina, have invented an Improvement in Marking Attachments for Plows, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a to plow with an improved and simplified marking attachment, which can be thrown over to either side of the plow for laying off rows either straight or terrace.
My improvement consists in novel features of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In order that my invention may be fully understood, I will proceed to describe it with reference to the accompanying drawings, in 20 which Figure I is a perspective view of a plow provided with myimproved marking attachment, the latter being shown thrown over toward the share side in dotted lines. Fig. II is a side elevation of my marking attachment, partly extended. Fig. III is a top view. Fig.
IV is a front view. Fig. V is a rear View.
1 is the beam having a clevis 2. v 3 is the standard having a landside 4c and braced by a rod 5 to the beam, and 6 are handles of an ordinary plow.
Trausversely of the beam 1 I secure my marking attachment, which I will now describe. 7 is a rod or arm constructed with a flattened portion 8 at its inner end, having an eye 9, with a lug 1O atits outer end having an orifice 11 and with a series of set-screw depressions or seats 12. This rod or arm carries an adjustable extension 13 for gaging 0 the distance between furrows, constructed with a lug,14, having an orifice 15 at its inner end, and with an eye 16 at its outer end provided with aloose marking-chain 17. The rod or arm 7 is passed through the orifice of the lug on the extension, and the extension is passed through the orifice of the lug of the rod or arm, so that the extension is supported by and adjustable on the rod or arm. Working through the lug of the extension is a thumb-screw or set-screw 18, which, engaging in one of the series of depressions or seats 12, holds the extension to the desired adjustment. Means for securing the attachment to the beam will now be described. 19 is a clip inserted in the eye of the flattened portion of the rod or bar, so that the latter is free to swing thereon. 20 is an arm-rest having holes 21, through which are passed the legs 22 of the clip and provided with flanges 23, formed With recesses 24, furnishing seats for the flattened portion of the rod or arm. The legs of the clip penetrate the beam, and the arm-rest and attachment are held in place on the beam by the clip and the nuts 25 working on the legs of the clip beneath the beam. The connection between the attachment and the clip provides a hinge-joint. It will be seen that the attachment can be thrown over either side of the beam, so that the marking-chain will form a line on either the land side or share side of the plow.
My attachment is of simple construction and readily manipulated.
Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A marking attachment for plows, consisting of an arm or rod 7, constructed with a flattened portion 8 at its inner end, having an eye 9, with a lug 10 at its outer end having an eye 11 and with a series of depressions or seats 12 along the body portion, an extension 13, constructed with a lug 14 at its inner end, having an eye 15 and with an eye 16 at its outer end, having a chain 17, a thumb or setscrew 18, working through the lug of the extension and engaging the depressions or seats of the arm or rod, a clip 19, an arm-rest 20, formed with holes 21 and with flanges 23, having recesses 21, and means for securing the clip, substantially as described.
