IMPROVED SH UTTER-HINGE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 46,25 l, dated February 7, 1865.
To alwhom/ it may concern.-
Beit known that I, ROBERT LEE, of Gincinnati, county of Hamilton, and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Shutter-Hinges; and I do hereby declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making ptrt of this specification.
My invention relates t0 an improved device whereby shutters can be set at any desired angle when opened and retained in such po- Siti0n.
A and B are respectively the upper and lower portions of a hinge, and to the latter is attacheda horizontal circular plate, C, having notches c, into which a gravitating catch, D, engages. The catch D occupies a mortise in the shutter, and is journaled on one sidein the shutter-stile and on the other side in the (See d.)
The shutter is operated from theinside by the lever E.
F is a modification of my device, in which the catch D operates horizontally and is maintained in its position by a spring, G, or its equivalent.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, the shutter-hinge herein described, consisting of the parts A B, flange C, the radial notches c c c, gravitating catch D, fulcruin-pin d, and handlever E, all constructed, arrau ged, and operating as specified. l
