UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEa I CHAS. BISHOP, 0F MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVED MOLDERS BENCH.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 416,209, dated February 7, 1865.
To @ZZ whom, it may c0ncern,:-
Be it known that I, CHARLES L. BrsHoP, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented anew and Improved Molders Bench; and I do hereby declare that the following is a .full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure I is a sectional sideelevation of this invention7 the line m x, Fig. 2, indicating the plane of section. Fig. 2 is a sectional front elevation, the section being taken in the lines y y y y', Fia l- Similar letters of reference indicate like parts. v
rIhis invention consists in a molders bench composed of a cast-iron bracket provided with j suitable holes, by means of which it can be secured to a post or other suitable place in the room or shop, and furnished with hooked flanges or ribs calculated to receive the inner ends of arms which extend in a horizontal-direction, being secured to the bracket by means oi' wedges, and supported at their outer ends by an angular brace which is secured to the arms by grooved ribs, and supported belowr by lugs or cleats projecting from the bracket in such a manner that said bench can be readily put up or taken down, and its height adjusted to suitpersons of different height, and, furthermore', a double bench is obtained which is not liable to rot or get out of order.
A represents a bracket cast of iron, or made of any other suitable material, and provided with holes a, by means of which it can be secured to a post orother suitable place in an upright position. The upper end of said ner ends of the arms B. These arms extendy from the bracket inahori'zontal direction, and their inner ends straddle the ribs a, as shown in Fig. 2, and are secured by wedges b of Wood or other suitable material. The outer ends of said arms are supported by a brace, C, which is also made of cast-iron, its upper end being forked so as to form two branches, each of which supports one of the arms B.
In order to secure the brace to the arms in a simple manner said arms are provided on their under surfaces with grooved ribs b, to receive iianges c, projecting from the upper ends of the brace, as shown in Fig. I, and the lower end of said brace straddles the bracket, and is supported' by a cleat, d, cast solid with said bracket. |The bracket is provided with two or more such cleats as shown in the drawings to correspond in position to the number and position of the lhorizontal ribs a, which support the inner ends of the arms B. The arms and brace can thus be readily adj usted higher and lower to suit persons of different stature, and a firm and durable bench is obtained which is not liable to rot or to get out of repair.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A molders bench composed of a bracket,
A, with ribs a, and cleats d, horizontal arms B, and brace C,ja1l constructed and iitted together in the manner substantially as herein
