WRENCH.
No. 460,062. Patented Sept. 22, 1891.

HELFRED JOHN ROSENBERG, OF PONTOTQO, TEXAS.
WRENCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 460,062, dated September 22, 189 1.
Application filed May 18, 1891. Serial No. 393,127. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HELFRED JOHN Rosan- BERG, of Pontotoc, in the county of Mason, in the State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in WVrenches, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to the construction of wrenches.
My object is to produce a wrench having a revoluble head, and which is provided with nut-seats of different sizes to fit nuts of different sizes, cheap and Very durable in construction, and of great utility.
My invention consists in the several novel features of construction and operation hereinafter described, and which are specifically set forth in the claims hereunto annexed.
It is constructed as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a face View of the wrench complete ready for use. Fig. 2 is a similar view thereof with the washer removed, showing the internal construction thereof and showing the plate in the position it takes when it is desired to rotate it to fit various-sized nuts. Fig. 3 is a plan View of the plate containing the nutseats detached. Fig. 4 are edge views of all of the parts detached.
Similar letters and figures of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is any ordinary handle constructed as shown, or may be constructed in any other design that may be desired, provided with a lug 1 upon the upper end and another lug 2 a short distance below, as more clearly shown in Fig. 4.
B is a plate of any size desired, either cast or forged, in the periphery of which are nutseats 3 3, constructed of any size desired to fit nuts of various sizes or designs. The plate B has a central circular opening 0 and inwardly-extending pieces 4 4E, forming the recesses 5 5, one to correspond with each nutseat, for the purposes hereinafter set forth.
6 is a bolt or rivet passing through the handle at 7 and through the center of the bolt and into the washer 8, Where it is secured either by a screw or in any other well-known manner, by which means the plate B is secured to the handle.
My invention is operated as follows: To rotate the plate B to any desired position, it is thrust out as far as possible to the end of the handle until the lug 1 is out of engagement with the recess 5, as shown in Fig. 2, and the plate may then be rotated in either direction until the desired size is in a position in which it may be used. Then when the desired position is reached it is again pushed down until the lug 1 engages with the recess 5, as shown in Fig. 1,and the directly-opposite nutseat engages with the lug 2 and prevents it from further rotating.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A wrench consisting of ahandle provided with lugs 1 and 2, a plate B, having nut-seats in its periphery, and a central opening C, having a recess 5 adapted to engage with the lug 1 upon the handle, and means for securing the plate rotatably upon the handle, as set forth.
2. In a wrench, the combination, with the handle provided with lugs 1 and 2, and a plate B, having nut-seats in its periphery and a central opening 0, and having recesses 5, which are adapted to engage with the lug 1, of a bolt or rivet passing through the handle and the plate and secured to the washer for the purpose of holding the plate upon the handle, and the washer, substantially as described, for the purposes set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 15th day of April, 1891.
EVANDER LIGHT, LEONIDAS CARTER.
