INVENTUH I /MVW/@ZEL UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HIRAM F. PATCHEN, OF SYRAOUSE, NEW YORK.
CURTAIN-POLE TRIIVIMING'/d SPECIFICATION forming part of'Letters Patent No. 459,412, dated September 15, 1891.
Application led June 26, 1890. Serial No. 356,760. No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern/.V
Be it known that I, HIRAM F. PATCHEN. of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Pole Trimmings, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is y a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention consists in a novel form of trimmings attached tothe ends of a curtainpole and serving the purposes of brackets for supporting drapery or other embellishments in front of the curtain and a proper distance therefrom to avoid interference with the arrangement of the curtain, and which trimmings are also adapted to be attached to the window-casing for supporting the penden t portions of curtains, all as hereinafter more fully described, and specifically set forth in the claims.
In the annexed drawings, Figure lis a front View of a pair of window-curtains hung on a pole equipped with my improved trimmings supportingan ornamental cord across the front ofthecurtain, andshowingalso said trimmings in position for supporting the pendent ends of the curtains. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of an end portion of the pole with the trimming attachedthereto. Fig. 3 is an enlargedlongitudinal section of the horn-shaped trimming, and Figa shows the rosette in face view and transverse section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
P denotes the curtain-pole, and a represents my improved trimming for said pole. This trimming consists of a prolonged tip, which is preferably curved and tapered longitudinally from end to end, ot' the form of a horn secured at its large end to the end of the pole, so as to extend laterally from the same, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The pole thus trimmed is to be secured to its supporting-brackets in-such a manner as to cause the horns d a to extend horizontally beyond the front of the curtain and allow the drapery to be hung on said horns without interfering with the arrangement of the curtain. In connection with this horn-shaped tip I prefer to employ a rosetteb between the attaching end ofthe said tip and end of the pole and attach both the tip and rosette to the pole bya screw c, rigidly secured to the center of the large end of the tip a, and passing through the center of the rosette and into the end of the pole, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Said horn-shaped tip I preferably form solid, and either mold it or stamp it by means of dies out. of a suitable solidifying compound, such as the Wellknown compound of shellac, rosin, and bonedust, which may be colored with aniline as may be desired. The rosette?) may be formed in the same manner and of the same material.
To the free end or small end of the tip I preferably attach a ring r for connecting thereto either an ornamental cord d, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, or hanging on said ring the drapery usually extended across the upper portion of the curtain. Similar hornshaped brackets c e may be attached to the window-casing for supporting the pendent portions of the curtains at opposite sides of the window, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with a curtain-pole, of drapery-supports consisting of outwardlycurved tips secured to the ends of the pole and arranged to supportthe drapery or other ornamentin front of the curtain, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with a curtain-pole, of drapery-supports consisting of outwardlycurved tips secured to the ends of the pole and provided with means, substantially as described, for retaining the drapery or ornament in proper position, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 23d day of June, 1800.
