SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 458,085, dated August 18, 1891.

Beit known that I, HENRY J. F. WERT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Auburn, in the county of Nemaha and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand-Stamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to improvements in hand-stamps. l

The object of the invention is to provide a revoluble holder with a series of hand-stamps, said holder also carrying an inking-pad and receptacle therefor, the whole furnishing a neat and convenient article of desk furniture.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the block supporting the stamps.l Fig. 3 is aperspective view of the device with the stampholder removed.

A refers to the base, which is of sufficient thickness to support a vertical pivot-pin B, upon which the revoluble stamp-holder is mounted. The stamp-holder consists of the blocks C and C', the upper block C having centrally a socket c, which extends beyond said block and has a squared portion, over Which the block C is placed and held. This socket is adapted to receive the pin B and permits the holder to revolve thereon. To the under side of the upper block C are secured a number of fiat springs D, the outer ends of Which are bent to provide for the attachment of the ordinary hand-stamps E. The faces of these stamps are formed with different characters or Words which may be used in the ordinary course of business, and upon the upper faces of the springsD maybe noted the subj ect-matter of the stamp carried thereby. Upon the baseAis secured a rectangular frame a, Within Which is placed the inking-pad G and stamp-bed I-I, and the end of the frame near the revoluble holder is provided With a covering-plate F, under which the inking-pad may be moved when not in use. A helical spring I is attached to the base and inking-pad holder, the tendency of which is to draw the inking-pad beneath the covering-plate F, at Which time the bed I-I is located beneath one of the hand-stamps. The inking-pad is held beneath the path of the hand-stamps by the catch g, carried by the rectangular frame a, engagingapin h, carried by the inking-pad and stamp-bed. When it is necessary to use any one of the hand-stamps, it is only necessary to turn the same. to the inking-pad and ink the face of the type, after which the catch is released to position the bed II beneath the stamp, and the matter to be printed can then be placed upon the bed and the stamp depressed to obtain an impression.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. In a handstamp, the combination of a base carrying adjacent to one end a support upon Which is mounted a holder carrying a plurality of independent hand-stamps, a slide having an inking-pad which is adapted to be moved and held either beneath one of the hand-stamps or Within a cover attached to the base, substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.

2. In combination with a suitable base, means for maintaining thereon a revoluble holder carrying a plurality of hand-stamps, springarms connecting said handstamps With the revoluble holder, a slide secured to the base, said slide having an inking-pad and a platen, a cover beneath Vwhich the inkingpad can be located, and a spring secured to the slide and to the base for retracting the slidefand means for holding the slide projected, substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.

3. In combination with a base, a revoluble block mounted thereon, a plurality of handstamps radiating from said block and connected thereto by spring-arms Which are removably connected to the block, a frame or guideway attached to the base and provided With a part cover,a slide havinga platen and inking-pad, and means for holding said slide either retracted or projected, for the purpose set forth.

4. In combination with a base A, having a TOO vertical pivot-pin B, blocks C and C', having a socket which ts over said pin, one of said blocks carrying a number of spring-arms D, to the outer ends of which are secured independent hand-stamps E, together with a rectangular frame a, within which is placed the pad G and stamp-bed H, one end of said frame having a cover F, beneath which the pad is moved, substantially as set forth.

5. In combination With a suitable base, a revoluble block mounted thereon and provided with a number of flat springs D, carrying hand-stamps, a rectangular frame secured to the base within which the inkngpad G and stamp-bed II are located, said pad and bed being normally held at one end of the frame by a spring and at the other by a gravity catch, substantially as set forth.
