Be it known that We, HENRY SoHMiDT and JOHN Hnrssnnnnaenn, both citizens oi the United States, residing, respectively, at Elizabeth, in the county oil Union and State of New Jersey, and in the city, county, and State ol New York, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Rubber- Stamp Devices, oi' which the following is a specification. i

This invention relates to that class oi rubber printing stamps wherein the types are set in grooves in a block or holder and the latter is pivotally mounted in a hinged trame, Wherebf,T the form oi' type may be swung over to a pad ior inking, and swung back to the other side Vlor making the impression. Links are used to attain a parallel movement.

The object of the present invention is to provide a stamp ot this character with an improved gage for placing the card or sheet to be printed on, and With cases Vfor holding rubber type lor use with the stamp.

Secured to the respective lateral edges oi' the base are two upright standards 4 to which are hinged, at o, the arms oi' a Un shaped swing-frame 5. Hung on pivots at w in said frame is a type-holder or case. This case consists et a block 6 with grooves in its upper i'ace to receive the rubber types T and a sheet metal box 7, for said block. This block 6 is beveled or inclined at its sides so as to be slightly Wider at the bottom than at the top, and the sides oi the containing box 7 are also inclined in the same manner. The ends oi the box 7 eX- tend up above the block to the pivotal points w. On the box is a removable cover 8. This type holding case or box is adapted to receive the type when not in use and, by reason of its convenient position, insures against loss oi the type when taken out oi the chase. l

The holder or chase 9 for the type going to make up the printing form may be of Wood with grooves in its lower face to receive the types of the form, and this chase 9 has fixed to it a sheet metal spring clamp or clip 10 to embrace the inclined sides oi the box 7 and hold. the chase removably in place. lt may be stated here that the object in inclining the sides of the box 7, as described, is in part to hold the block 6 in place and in part to enable the spring clip 10 to get a more retentive hold on the boX. Links 11 coupled at one end to the respective ends of the box` '7,- andv at 'the other end to thev respective standards 4, maintain the face of the i'orm in a horizontal position at all times.

Adjustable on the platen-portion a of the base, is a gage 12, having a right-angled gage head to receive the sheet S (Fig. 4) on Which the inscription is to be printed, and having a lip 12EL Which takes under a spring 13, the latter serving to press the said lip Ydovvn firmly on the platen a and thus hold it in place While permitting the gage to be moved about to a limited extent for adjustment. The spring is broad and clamps the lip or tongue of the gage With irictional pressure. The spring 13 is represented as secured to the side oi the boX 3 containing the inking pad 2, but this is not important to the invention 3 it may be secured to the base either directly or indirectly.

As a oase to hold other rubber type, say of another style or size, there is a tray 14 under the base 1, and of the same dimensions as the latter', and this tray is grooved to receive and hold types T1. The tray is pivoted to the base by a screw 15, seen in Fig. 1. This tray or type-oase 14 forms a sort of sub-base when in place, as in Figs. 1 and 2, and the base, carrying the several parts mounted thereon may be pivotally swung With relation thereto, .to open and close said tray or type-case. This case 14 is adapted for storage of type in addition to such as may be contained in the case or bor; carried above the chase.

Having thus described our invention, we claim l. A rubber stamp device, having a base, a swinging frame thereon, a type-case mounted pivotally in said frame with grooves in its upper side to receive and hold the type, a chase to holdthe form of type for printing, and a spring clip on said chase for clamping it to the underside of said typecase.

A rubber stamp device, having a base, a swinging frame Jthereon, a' type case mounted pivotally in said frame, said case comprising a metal boX which has inclined sides, a removable cover for the box, and a block held in said box, said block being grooved in its upper side to receive the types, a chase for holding the types used for )rinting, said chase having grooves in its lower face to receive and hold the said types, a spring clip on the back of the chase to embrace and clamp on the bottom of the type case, means for inling the type, and an adjustable gage to properly locate the sheet which is to receive the impression.

5. A device oi the character described having a base, a standard thereon, an inking pad on the base at one side of the standard, a platen on the base at the opposite side of the standard, and a printing device pivotally connected With the standard and grooved at its upper part to af'lord a type-case adapt ed to receive printing types, and also provided with' type-retaining grooves in its lower part afording a chase to receive types.
