INKSTAND.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 45,39 l, dated December 13, 1864.

Beit known that I, DAVID CUMMTNG, Jr., of New York, in the coun ty and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Inkstands; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation oft-he saine, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this spfeilication, in which- Figure l is an elevation; Fig. 2, a vertical section, and Fig. 3 a horizontal plan.

The bottom is attached to the case by the pivot F, which allows it to be turned round, so that the ink-bottle can be placed within the case when the bottom is returned and kept in its position under the case by the catch Gr.

There is a large quantity of ink sold put up in bottles similar to the ink-bottle herein described which are themselves used for inkstands, but have the objections of being small and light, and therefore easily upset, and the stopper is liable to be mislaid or lost, and

they have no place in which to put the pen` holder when not in use, all of which objections are obviated by the use of the herein-described invention, which provides a larger and heavier base, and by having the stopper attached to DAVID GUMMING, JR. Witnesses:
