Be it known that I, HERMAN W. HOOPS, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Candy Whistles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a childs whistle composedof a body of some edible substance and an attached label which may be of stiif paper.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure I is a perspective view of a whistle embodying my invention. Fig. II shows the candy and the paper portions detached. Fig. III is a. longitudinal section of said whistle.
1 represents the body of candy, which is so formedin a suitable mold. as to have a flat portion 2, which has a deep pit or resonant cavity 3 near the middle of said body, and extending from said pit to the end of the body a shallow flat-bottomed depression 4.
5 represents a strip of stiff paper, having a hole 6, Whichstrip is gummed securely to the fiat portion 2, so as to create a mouth-piece by which the breath of the user is concentrated upon the farther edge of the said hole, so as to producea sharp musical note or sound, the said label thus discharging the functions of a reed.
The label may bear a printed or embossed design or form of words serving to carry an address and advertisement or to serve as a trade-mark.
Instead of paper, the material of the label may be of an equivalent materiah'such as card-board or wood, or of some soluble and innocuous substance, such as isinglass.
I claim as my invention- The childs Whistle whose body 1 is composed of an edible substance and has the described flat portion 2, with cavity 3 and shallow depression 4, and the attached paper strip 5, having the hole 6.
