Description

J. SCHMEDINGHOFF.
Summer Stove,
No. 45.181. Patented Nov. 22, 1864.
I UNITED STATES PATENT FFICEQ JOSEPH SCHMEDINGHOFF, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUMMER-STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 45, ll 81, dated November 22, 1864.
To all whom it may concern:
Be 1t known that I, JOSEPH SGHMEDING- HOFF, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stoves; and I do hereby declare the tollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates more particularly to the class of stoves intended for burning charcoal for summer use; and it consists in a device for the more perfect combustion of the particles which customarily escape in the form of smoke. 1
Figure l is an axial section through a stove embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the grate on a reduced scale. v
The shell A has the form of an inverted conic frustum, a being draft-inlets, and A the boiler-plate.
B is the exit-nozzle.
C is a ring or annular plate which rests upon the shell A and supports the arena-ted rim D (Z of a pendent conoidal-formed grate,
E. The crenations or notches d afford passages for divided currents of draft-air, which, having been preheated in its passage up the annular space F, between the grate and shell, acts to burn the smoke.
A handle, G, projecting from the ring (J through a horizontal slit in the shell, enables the grate to be shaken violently to and fro, so as to precipitate the ashes and keep the passages (1 clear.
I claim herein as new and of my invention- The combination of the annular plate or ring C, the shaking-handle G, and the removable basketgrate E, formed with a crenated rim, D (Z, permitting the passage of air around the margin of the grate, while supporting it within the shell A.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
J. SCHMEDINGHOFF.
