Description

(No Model.)
R. s. & T. F. REILLEY.
PAINT POT.
Patent-ed Ap1 .Z8,1891.
UNITED STATES I PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD S. REILLEY AND TERENCE F. REILLEY, OF NEWV YORK, N. Y.
PAINT-POT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 451,171, dated April 28, 1891.
Application filed November 11, 1890. Serial No. 371,036. (No model.)
I0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, RICHARD S. REILLEY and TERENCE F. REILLEY, both of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Paint-Pots, of which the following is a specification.
The object of our improvement is to provide a paint-pot having its circumferential rim so constructed that it may be used to scrape brushes against to clean them or to deprive them of surplus paint. In ordinary paintpots this rim is rounded to inclose a stiffening-wire, and is thereby rendered unsuitable for the purposes mentioned, and requires the use of a putty or other knife therefor.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of a paint-pot constructed according to our invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the rim thereof. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a portion of the pot; and Fig. at is a transverse section of the rim, showing a modification.
A designates the body of the paint-pot, preferably made to taper for the purpose of inserting one within another, and made of the usual sheet material. It is here sho .vn provided with a bail a, pivotally connected to ears (0 a secured to the body of the pot.
B is a band of thin sheet material, extending around the upper exterior surface of the pot and secured thereto, as hereinafter described. The upper edge of this band is inserted-in a groove formed by bending the upper edge or rim of the pot outwardly and downwardly and compressing the same closely to form a sharp or knife edge a The lower portion of this band is bent into circular or other shape a to form a stiffening-bead, and, preferably, this bead will contain a cavity for the reception of a wire a. This latter portion of the band may be arranged about three-eighths of an inch approximately from the rim of the pot and to rest upon the ears 0, and also against the body of the pot. The ends of the band may be soldered or secured together by riveting, as shown in Fig. 3. If desired, the upper portion of the band may be bent overthe edge of the pot and folded tightly against the upper interior surface of the same, as shown in Fig. at, which also shows in sectional elevation a band of cylindrical form having its bead resting against the tapering body of the pot. By this construction the band and pot may be separately constructed and the former slipped over the latter from its lower end and held in place by means of the ears a subsequently attached to the pot, and which also afford a support for the band while the foldingover of the upperedge of the band or pot is being done.
Having now described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination ofa paint-pot tapering RIoHARD s. REILLEY. TEREN E F. REILLEY.
