Description
Patented Dec. 5,
PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID F. CURTIN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SANITARY LINER CONTAINER.
Application filed January 27, 1921. Serial 1T0. 440,314.
To all whom it may comem Be it known that 1, DAVID F. Comm, a
citizen of the United States, and'a resident of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Sanitary Liner Container; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in the construction of containers or holders for liners or cups of parafiined paper or the like from which such cups are made, and has for its primary object the provision of such a container or holder which is cheap, durable and'easy of construction and readily adapted for the purpose of an ordinary drinking cup and to be used as such, but which will be absolutely sanitary.
The ordinary drinking cup ascommonly used is subject to a good many disadvantages and objections on account of the unsanitary condition of the same which usually prevails. It has been proposed touse individual drinking cups made of para-fiined paper or the like, but these individual drinking cups when made heavy enough for ordinary use are rather expensive to manufacture and when made lighter are more or less fragile and do not perform their function in quite as satisfactory manner as may be desired.
One of the objects, therefore, of this invention is the provision of a sanitary holder for parafiined aper cups or liners which is adapted for t e insertion thereinto of a paper cup or a blank adapted tobe formed into a cup and which, when the cup is so assembled therein, will constitute a perfectly satisfactory and thoroughly sanitary cup which can be continuously used without any danger of transmission of. disease or any other evil.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a holder or container for sanitary cups which will positively retain the cup in position therein whether the cup be made of. a previously formed blank and glued toether, or of a prepared liner adapted to be inserted into the cup and assume its form on account of such insertion.
Still another object of this invention is the provision of a container for sanitary cups which can be readily and easily cleaned and which is not liable to accumulate dirt or other refuse.
Other and further important objects of the invention will be apparent'from the disclosures in the accompanying drawings and specification.
The invention (in a preferred form) is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.
On the drawings:
F igu left hand side of the cup with the container or liner omitted.
c Figure 3 is a partial sectional view taken approximately on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a to plan view of the assembled container an liner showing the sanitary feature in detail.
As shown on the drawings:
The reference numeral 10 indicates a metallic container for sanitary cups of conical shape and preferably made of paraflined paper or the like, these cups being substantially of the form shown in previous applications for U. S. Letters Patent by the same inventor, Serial Nos. 342,639 and 434,446, filed on re 1 is a side elevation showingthe Dec. 5,1919, and Jan. 3, 1921, respectively.
The holder is of a conical shape on the interior thereof and is provided. with'a base 12 to more securely support the same upon.-
a fiat surface or table and has a handle 14 by means of which it may be readily manipulated. The holder or container may, of course,'be made more ornamental if desired, and may be made of other material than metal, such as hardwood, composition, or the like. The cup may be made without a base,
to be used at fountains or the like, beingmerely hung in place.
As shown in Figure 2, the holder has an opening extending completely therethrough so that it comprises substantially two cones, hollow, and with their apices in contact, thereby providing a form of cylinder completely open from one end to the other. The top edge of the cup 10 is provided with an inwardly turned bead 16, which is adapted to extend slightly thereover and hold securelyin position a paper cup or liner after it has been inserted into the conical holder. The head and a portion of the cup is cut away preferably upon thereof, as shown at 18, so as to provide a the left hand side space for the mouth or lips of the user of the cup. The edge of the paper cup extends beyond this space and it will be seen that the lips of the user will not contact with the holder 10, but with only the paper cup or liner, which is readily renewable. A conical cup 20 formed of papercoated with paraffin or other suitable material and'shaped to correspond exactly with the conical interior of the holder is adapted tobe placed inside the holder and to be held securel in position therein by means of the inwardly extending head 16. The edge of the can the cutaway portion 18 will naturally extend outwardly and provide a space for the lips of the holder to contact therewith in order to allow comfortable drinking without anydanger of any contact between the holder 10 proper and the mouth of the user;
It will be seen that herein is provided a holder or container for sanitary cups-or liners which may be made either in a conical form and assembled W-iththe aid of an adhesive so as to constitute a cup'whieh will be merely reinforced when placed in "the holder, or the holder may bensed for the blank such as is-shown in my copending application '80- rial No. 484,446 previously referred to, wherein a prepared blank is adapted-to bein- 20 adjacent from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose granted otherwise than prior art.
I "claim as my invention:
A container for sanitary liners adapted to form a cup, said container being provided with an inwardly extending bead adapted to hold the liner in position and having a porlirniting the patent necessitated by the 'tion of its upper edge cut away to provide a space wherein the lips of the user will contactwith the liner on y.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DAVID F. CURTIN.
