R. T. FORBES. GUN SLING ATTACHMENT.
Patented Apr. 21,1891.
BY Q ATTO/P/VEVJ UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD TASKER FORBES, OF LAS VEGAS, TERRITORY OF NEHV MEXICO.
GUN-SLING ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 450,? 85, dated April 21, 1891..
Application filed January 20, 1391. Serial No. 378,487. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD TASKER FORBES, of the city of Las Vegas, county of San Miguel, in the Territory of New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gun-Sling Attachments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in gun-sling attachments; and it consists in the novel arrangement and combination of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and designated in the claims,
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my complete invention, showing the same applied to the triggerguard of a gun and also to the gun strap or sling; and Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal section of my in vention detached.
The object of my invention is to construct a device to be applied to the leather slings of Springfield and other rifles and guns now in use, thereby effecting a means for adjusting the tension of the strap or sling on the gun as desired by the operator.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a trigger-guard of an ordinary gun, through the side of which-is aperforation for the pur pose hereinafter stated 2 indicates a cylindrical pin, one end of which is bifurcated and adapted to pass over one side of the guard, and the opposite end of said cylindrical pin is provided with a bore, which here is also provided with internal screw-threads. Said pin is secured to said trigger-guard by means of a screw 3, which passes through the bifurcations of said pin and also the triggerguard, through a suitable perforation formed therein, as hereinbefore stated.
4: indicates an adjustable swivel-link provided with rounded corners, against the inner surface of which the sling or strap 6 is adapted to come in contact in its functional operation, thereby preventing the same from being out and worn away. Said link is provided on its straight side or face 7with a perforation 8, through which the stem 9 of a thumb-screw 10 is adapted to pass. Said stem is adapted to be received in the bore formed in the end of the cylindrical pin 2.
The head of thumb-screw 10 is provided with depressions 11, in which a suitable and appropriate device may be applied to turn the same, or said head is additionally provided with corrugations, thereby enabling the same to be operated by the fingers.
Whenever it is desired to loosen the sling or strap 6, the operator should unscrew thumb- 6o screw 10 by any suitable means, and to tighten or increase the tension of said sling or strap of course the operation of the thumb-screw 10 would be reversed.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is- 1. As a new article of manufacture, a gunsling attachment consisting of an adjustable swivel-link and means for securing the same to the gun, substantially as described.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a gunsling attachment consisting of an adjustable swivel-link and means for attaching the same to the trigger-guard of the gun, substantially as set forth.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a gunsling attachment consisting of an adjustable swivel-link, a cylindrical pin provided With a screw-threaded bore, means for securing said cylindrical pin to the trigger-guard, and a thumb-screw, the stem of which is adapted to be received in said bore for uniting said link and said cylindrical pin, substantially as set forth. r
4. As a new article of manufacture, a gunsling attachment consisting of an adjustable swivel-link, a cylindrical pin, one end of which is bifurcated and the opposite end thereof provided with ascrew-threaded bore, and a thumb-screw for uniting said swivel-link and cylindrical pin, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RICHARD TASKER FORBES.
