WILLIAM B. ABRAMS, OF ELLS, NEIV YORK.
HAME ATTACHMENT;
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 450,550, dated April 14, 1891. I Application filed June 28, 1890. Serial No. 357.125. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM B. ABRAMS, of Wells, in the county of Hamilton and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,\vhicl1 form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in hame attachments; and it consists in a plate or casting which is to be attached directly to the hame, and which is provided at its upper end with a ring through which the back-strap passes, a series of steps through which a rod is passed and upon which rod a cockeye or other suitable attachment for the trace is placed and a flange upon its front edge, I
through which a breast-ring is passed, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The object of my invention is to provide a draft attachment for draft-hames which is cheap in construction, durable, and can be applied to hames of any kind.
The accompanying drawing represents a perspective of a hame attachment which embodies my invention.
A represents a plate of suitable width and length, which is curved slightly, so as to correspond to the shape of the hame, and which is made either flat or convex on itsinner side, where it comes in contact with the hame. Through this plate are made any desired number of holes, through which screws or fastening-bolts are passed. At the upper end of this plate is formed an eye B,in which is placed a small ring 0, to receive the backs strap. Below this ring 0 are formed any desired number of perforated steps D, through which the headed bolt F, which is screwthreaded at its lower end, passes. Through the head of the bolt is made asmall opening, in which a pin, nail, or other device may be placed for the purpose of unscrewing the lower end of the bolt from the lower step, so
that the bolt can be removed when the cockeye G or other attachment H is to be adjusted from one step to the other, according to the height of the draft desired. The head of the bolt being made angulanit can be removed by a wrench equally as well, if so desired.
The cockeye Gis different from the ordinary cockeye, in that it is provided with a projection L, through which a perforation is made in a line with the bolt, instead of at right angles to the bolt, and is to be used with bolt-hames; butany other form of attachment can be used, if so desired. Extending from the front edge of the plate A is the flange I, in which is placed the breast-ring J.
This attachment can be readily used with chaintugs, and the steps are so made that the link can be adjusted from one to the other after the rod has been removed.
The ring H is to be used with clip-tugs, as it forms a joint for the traces which will al- -low them an easy movement up or down.
A hame attachment consisting of a longigit-udinal plate, which is adapted to be applied directly to the hame, having a series of laterally-extending perforated steps between its ends, an eye at its upper end carrying a ring for the back-strap, the boltwhich passes through the steps, a flange I, extending from the plate on the opposite side and horizontally opposite the trace attachment and carrying a ring, and a trace attachment secured between the steps by the bolt, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WVILLIAM B. ABRAMS. Witnesses:
HARRY L. PAGE, AZARIAH CHAMBERLAIN.
