To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CALVIN H. BUCHWVAL TER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Devices for Lifting Photograph-Negatives and other P]ates,whieh improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.

Myinvention relates to a device for lifting photographicand other negatives; and it 0011- sists, first, of a thimble with a suction-cup connected therewith. 4

It further consists of a thimble having a suction-cup secured thereto by a tubular connection.

It further consists of a connected suctioncup and thimble having an interposed washer or plate.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a device embodying my invention in operative position applied to a negative. Fig. 2 represents a central longitudinal section of the device before applying it to the negative.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.

Referring to the drawings, A designates a thimble of anyordinaryconstruction adapted to receive the end of a finger, so as to be retained thereon.

B designates a suction cup, of rubber, having a depending rim 0 and a concave under face, forming an air-chamber D. The cup B is connected with the thimble A by means of a tubular rivet E, which passes through openings in the end of said thimble and the base of the cup and has its ends headed, so as to securely hold together said thimble and cup.

To give uniform pressure to the cup,awasher or disk Fis secured on the rivet between the thimble and the said cup.

In manipulating the device the cup, by

means of the thimble, is pressed smartly upon the surface of the negative, flattening the said cup and exhausting the air from within the chamber D, the washer F, owing to its form, causing a uniform pressure of the cup. As the air'is exhausted in the chamber D the cup will take such hold of the negative, so that the latter can be lifted from the dish or tray and be carried as desired. When it is necessary to release the said negative, the finger is removed from over the end of the opening in the tubular connection E, so that air may enter the cup, and thus destroy the vacuum, whereupon the cup is released.

It will be seen that the device is simple and inexpensive in character, though of great practical utility, and one which can be easily operated.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A device for the purpose described, consisting of a thimble and a suction or air cup, substantially as described.

2. A thimble with an air orsuction cup and an intervening washer or disk, said parts being combined substantially as described.

3. A device for the purpose named, consisting of a thimble, a suction-cup, and a tubular connection for said cup and thimble, said parts being combined substantially as described.

4. A devicefor the purpose named, consisting of a thimble, an elastic suction-cup, a tubular connection for said cup and thimble, and a Washer or disk on said tubular connection between said thimble and cup, said parts being combined substantially as described.
