SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 447,168, dated 13ebruary'24 1891.

Be it known that I, FRANK A. SNOW, of
' David City, in the county of Butler and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and Im provedStove-Pipe Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in stove-pipe fasteners; and the obj ect of my invention is to provide a simple and efficient device by means of which a stove-pipe may be quickly and firmly secured in a wall or chimney-flue.
To this end the invention consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts, which Will be hereinafter fully described, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a partof this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device as applied to a stove-pipe and chimney-flue, the chimney and stove-pipe being shown in vertical section. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 3 is a detail view showing the manner in which the thumb-screw is applied to the pipe and fastener; andFig. 41 is a side elevation of the device as applied to a stovepipe and a thin wall, the stove-pipe being indicated by dotted lines.
The device consists of two members A and A, the member A being somewhat longer than the thickest wall to which the device will be applied. The member A at one end is turned up to form a right-angled hook B and at the other end has a thickened portion A which is perforated and screw -threaded and has a countersunk portion a. A thumbscrew 0, having a conical point, fits in the perforation of the member A. Near the hook end of the member A are upwardly-projecting flanges 12, forming upon the upper surface of the member A a slide, in which the member A is longitudinally movable. The member Ais also provided with a slot d, which extends longitudinally between the flanges b. The member A is shorter than the member A, and one end of the member is movable between the flanges b. WVhen the deviceis to be applied to a thin wall, as shown in Fig. 4, a third member A is provided having an upwardly-projecting flange E, and also adapted for attachment to the member A by the thumb-screw D.
To apply the device to a chimneyF and stove-pipe H, the hook B is inserted in the chimney-flue and the flange E pressed against the opposite wall, said parts being held in this position by tightening the thumb-screw D. The outer end of the member A will thus project into the room. A collar H is placed upon the member A and the stove-pipe H inserted in the chimney-flue through the collar and between the members A and A. A per foration is made in the stove-pipe opposite the perforated part of the member A. The thumb-screw O is then inserted in said perforation and through the thickened portion A of the member A and screwed into position, thus tightening the parts and firmly se curing the stove-pipe. WVhen applied to a thin wall, as shown in Fig. 4., the member A is placed upon the inner side of the wall F, with the flange E abutting against the inner surface of the wall and the flange E of the member A pressing against the outer surface ofthe wall. The stove-pipe is applied and secured as above described.
The device is usually applied to the upper portion of the chimney-flue; but if the inner wall of the chimney is crumbled away at that part it may be applied to any other part. As the members A and A are capable of longitudinal adjustment, as shown, it will be readily seen that the device may be applied to a wall of any reasonable thickness, that the same size of fastener may be applied to stove or furnace pipes of different sizes, and that no special tools are needed to apply the device.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- I 1. In a stove-pipe clamp, the bar A, having a screw or pin receiving aperture in its outer end, a second member or bar A, extending longitudinally along the bar A and having a slot (1' at its inner end registering with slot cl and a flange E at its outer end, a space being formed between the outer ends of the two bars or members for the introduction of a part of a stove-pipe after the device has been secured in place, and a screw or pin for locking the stove-pipe to the bar A at the apertured outer end thereof, substantially as set forth.
2. In a stove-pipe clamp, the bar A, having a longitudinal slot (Z, parallel side flanges Z) Z), hooked or flanged inner end B, and the boss A having screw-threaded aperture, the second member or bar A, havinga slotted inner end extending between said flanges, the adjusting-screw passed through the said two slots, the flange E on the outer end of the member A, and the thumb-screw C for said threaded boss, substantially as set forth.
3. A stove-pipe clamp consisting in a bar A, having a flanged or hooked inner end B, a longitudinal slot d, and an aperture at or near its outer end, and two other superposed bars or members having longitudinally-slotted inner ends registering with the slot in bar A and having parallel flanges at their outer ends, the set-screw passing through said slots, and the pin orscrew to pass through the stove-pipe and the said end aperture, sub stantially as set forth.
