DOCTOR EMPLOYED IN THE PRINTING OF TEXTILE FABRICS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 447,126, dated February 24, 1891.
Application filed September 12, 1890. Serial No. 364.740. (No model.) Patented in England November 13, 1889, No. 18,145.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN ARCHER, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, and residing at Radcliffe, in the county of Lancaster, England, have invented Improvements in Doctors Employed in the Prin tin g of Textile Fabrics, (for which a patent has been granted to mein Great Britain,No. 18,145, dated November 13. 1889,) of which the fol- IO lowing is a specification.
The object of this invention is so toconstructa doctor employed in the printing of textile fabrics that its front or acting edge shall be stiffer than heretofore and capable of riding over a Wider surface of the engraved roller without dipping in and so injuring the roller and unduly removing the coloring-matter from those parts. My improved doctor, also, will not require to be more heavily 2o weighted than the thinner doctors hitherto -employed.
On the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a doctor made according to my invention; and Fig. 2 is a trans- 2 5 verse section of the same, taken through the line a, b on Fig. 1.
In performing my invention I construct my improved doctor at its front part and throughout the length of the blade of two thicknesses of steel, brass, or other suitable metal laid one upon another, as indicated by the letters 0 and d, and soft soldered or brazed together. In this manner I secure great strength and stifiness at the front or acting edge e of the doctor, while at the same time I obtain the same elasticity and suppleness of a thinner plate at the back part of the doctor.
In practice I find that a doctor-blade constructed aforesaid is better supported by the entire engraved surface of the roller than heretofore. This compounding the thickness of a doctor-blade also renders such blade more durable by virtue of the greater thickness of metal presented for being filed down from time to time. I
As a modification of my invention I sometimes construct my improved doctor-blade out of a single solid sheet of metal of the desired thickness to form the front edge and by cut ting or grinding the back part of the blade down to the degree of thinness required to afford the necessary elasticity or suppleness of that part.
I claim as my invention An improved doctor made thick at the extreme front or acting part and throughout the length of the blade to insure strength and stiffness and thin at the back part to insure its elasticity and suppleness, substantially as hereinbefore described.
