Be it known that I, GEORGE IV. BAKER., a citizen of the United States, residing at Oolmesneil, in the oount7 of Tyler and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Shears, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in shears which are adapted to be run along the top of the table or other surface, whereby the movable blade is adapted to be operated so that elotl1,paper, or other material may be severed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side view, and Fig. 2 a top View, of my invention.
A isithe lower member of a pair of shears, provided with a handle B, said lower member being provided also with a eutting-edge a. Pivoted to the lower member at O near the top thereot` is the movable upper member D, provided with a cutting-edge d.
E is a roller journaled near the heel a of the lower member and provided with an elongated eccentric-pin F on its outer side. Extending rearwardly from the upper inember D is a projection G, provided with a suitable` elongated opening g, in which the pin F is adapted to work.
It will be apparent that in running the shears over a table in vertical position, so that the roller will engage the top of the tathe engagement of the eccentric-pin at the side of the roller with the opening inthe rearwardly-extending projection.
In a pair of shears, the combination, with a lower member provided with a handle, of a `roller journaled to said member and provided with an elongated eccentric-pin, an upper member pivoted to said lower member, and a rearwardly-extending projection from said upper member provided with a suitable elongated opening for the engagement of said pin, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
